India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. I know that there are better Indian restaurants out here in LA, but for some reasons, I keep on coming back to this place. Is it because of the naan, or the chicken tandoori, or the chicken tikka masala, the vindaloo, or the paneer? Or is it the fact that the wait staff just leave you alone and let you enjoy your food? Or is it the casual atmosphere (do stay on the patio)? Or is it a combination of all these? And please, smother your biryani with the tikka masala, grab a piece of garlic naan and scoop the rice straight to your gaping mouth, follow with a bite of your chicken tandoori. Bet you can't help but smirk in approval. Yum!

This is my favorite Indian place in all of LA. I get the Lamb Ginger Chili Stir Fry (a house specialty) almost every time and it NEVER disappoints. If you like your food spicy and flavorful, its a dish sent straight from heaven. Standard fare like Chicken Tikka Masala is just as good and their naan is fantastic. I've been coming here for almost 15 years and every meal is a delight.

Hands down, THE BEST Panjabi cuisine I've ever tried in all of LA. The paneer korma (mild) dinner plate that I had was *sublime*!! It was creamy, rich, and every bite was simply inviting. My dearest compliments to the chef and my sincerest thanks to the lovely waitress who recommended this to me!! The dinner portions are generous. I kind of like the rustic "plates" they're served on--they're simply large round metal containers with a very old-world kind of feel. The naan that my partner and I had was the Peshowari-- a sweet, delightful and nutty treat that read like an in-between of dessert and table bread. It was spectacular. My partner ordered the chicken yellow curry (spicy) dinner plate and was amazed at the deliciousness of the food; he keenly noticed the disparities between Indian kitchens across Southern California--how no two restaurants produce similar-tasting foods, like Mexican or American kitchens do--but gave East India Grill his 5-star seal of approval. Granted that his chicken yellow curry was too spicy for me, it was very flavorful and expertly crafted in the kitchen. For both of us, the dal was delicious. The raita was a bit too salty, but far be it from me to judge against it for authenticity. This food is as real as real comes. Curiously, the handsome waiter, Lov, explained to us that despite the words "East India" in "East India Grill," the food that comes out of the kitchen is Northern Indian, specifically Panjabi. What a guy, too. He treated us to a complimentary rice pudding after dinner. But I admit. I am ashamed of myself. Ashamed of myself that it took me this long to find East India Grill. They've been here almost 28 years, at the same location. It might take me another 28 years to forgive myself for this transgression. I also miscalculated my tip (Groupon confusion) and under-tipped them a bit from my usual 20%+. This will be corrected next time. Try it. You'll love it. Thank you, East India Grill!

The staff is so nice and very helpful. The food was wonderful. I tried the house curry with chicken and vegetables. It was soooo flavorful. The chicken naan was amazing too.
(5)Geo M.
This is the 2nd time i come here!! The food is absolutely delicious. The yellow curry and the jumbo shrimp are one of the best plates i ve ever had! The service is amazing too :) Geo

I highly recommend their lunch specials - they're both delicious and a great bargain! Great place. I especially recommend the lamb roti (spicy) and adding a little raita.

8/19/14- now what's the chances,.. I have to keep updating my reviews. Why not ;) Since the first time I came into East Indian, I have yet to find a better place. I have been all over la, San Diego, Chicago, and even Indiana. This place has beaten so many others by far. I just love this place. They never let me down. I am actually trying to get my sister to Join me there for dinner in 45. Hope she does. I'll even cover the bill.. That's how good it is ;) ............ Came here tonight and yes it was on the Famously Groupon nearby Deals. Obviously, I checked the Yelp review first...you just have to!!! We walked in about 9:30 and they closed in an hour... Eagerly seating us. The place was empty, but one table...but it is kind of late to be eating anyways. The decor is kinda nice with the lights and it being during the night. The smell is amazing from the side walk, if you know what I mean, but may be weird for someone who has never tried Indian food. So we ordered the Tandoori Chicken, Makhani Tikka Masala, Saffron rice, and the traditional Naan. Everything utterly amazing, hot fresh off the grills, seasoned perfectly, tender chicken, warm Naan, and perfect rice. They served enough food for two to stuff us and we needed a box to take home too. The staff was polite, on guard to refill drinks, and cleaning tables as needed. In all, I think this place is a hit and I'd return to try more of their dishes and recommend it to others.
(4)Yuri S.
Food was pretty amazing. Great service. Yes, our server asked us to write a yelp review, as if his life depended on it. But I was going to do it anyways. We got naan, and samosas for starters, out of this world. Then my gf got chicken curry, which was great and smelled amazing. My shrimp tikka masala kind of tasted like it was made from a canned tomato soup, but overall was pretty good. Shrimp were big and had great texture. Also got free icecream.
(3)Tamela J.
This place gave me LIFE!!!.. I've been craving Indian and I found this place!!,, a must atleast once a week!!!!.. I really enjoy the curry chicken and brown lentils . Sooo delicious! Very buttery tasting. Great paired with the garlic naan.
(5)Kelly W.
The chicken tikki masala was the best thing to have ever come into my life!! And don't even get me started on their naan. The hospitality was amazing, all the staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was seriously delicious! At the end of the meal they gave us complementary homemade ice cream and we got pecan and its was also sooo good....really recommend coming here!!
(5)Nic M.
Have been here twice with Groupon - 5 stars both times. Sagwala curry with Parmesan Naan is great. Best lamb curry I have had anywhere. Service is outstanding, always impressed with the staff. They are there to refill water, rice etc before you even realize you need it and are always giving you extras with your meal. Parking in the rear or on the street. Will return again, even without the Groupon this place is well worth it.
(5)Stella D.
Good service; I have to give them that. Of course I'm a sucker for a dark eyed, handsome, energetic and witty Indian man playing up his culture while selling me the special lamb curry. He can do very little to upset me. As for the food: Dal: watery Rice: dry Lamb: tough and there was too much turmeric and cumin making the curry rather bitter. HOWEVER ! We asked for strong spicy and we did get reasonable heat so they get full marks for that. Hubbie liked his Chicken Tikka ok. The naan was so so not fluffy but hot and seasoned nicely. The portions, as most others wrote are huge but even two days later when we were very hungry, I threw more than half of it out because it just didn't measure up. I like the people who work there - very nice. The place could use some sprucing up but the food needs - something - I don't know, it's missing a presentation or energy and if they could hold back a bit on the yellow spice, perhaps . . . Who knows? I might dare to go again. After all there was a promising fragrance in the air when our dishes came to the table. I had hopes.

Hello Yelpers. This was not planned, i am an abnormally normal foodie who stumbled down la brea when this amazingly delicious smell hit me. Now I've had my fair share of Indian cuisine, my favorite dishes and all, so when I ordered my food, cooked right and proper in front of my face, I was blown away by what I ate. Before I even had a taste, the beauty of it alone forced me to take a pic. Now when you look at my pic, believe me when I tell you, their authentic homemade flavors were even far better than what my humble Samsung phone caught. If you like Indian cuisine, you would doing yourself a disservice if you haven't given them a good try with your favorites. My favs: chicken tikka massala, saag paneer. Their fresh hot naan bread (try the garlic cheese!), in its many varieties, will melt your mouth. Cheers!
(5)Kimberly B.
My husband is Indian, so is very picky about Indian restaurants. We eat here frequently, and are never disappointed. Our favorites are the Chicken Tikka and Saag Paneer. The staff is SO nice, and they are always attentive. We prefer to sit outside on the patio, b/c it has such a lovely atmosphere!
(5)Joe M.
This place is great. This is my second time coming here and I think it got better the second time around. The staff here is excellent. How this place doesn't have 6 stars is beyond me.
(5)Nick C.
This place always has great lunch specials. Plus, they sometimes give you free dessert. Definitely try this place out.
(4)Chris M.
I love East India Grill. I've been coming here for years. I'm pretty sure I eat here at least once a week. The Tikka Masala sauce is a must order. The staff is super friendly, they treat me like family and you feel like you're in their home. You can sit outside as well as inside and there's nothing like coming here after dark, ordering chicken tikka masala and a glass of wine and sitting outside at a table with friends. They have a great selection of Indian beers. Also for some reason the Coke from their soda machine is the best Coke I've ever tasted. I don't know why.
(5)Shay C.
Amazing amazing amazing!! The service is superb, the food is even better! I feel like I'm getting a home cooked meal by a warm, welcoming mother every time I come here. The atmosphere is very quaint and intimate, with fun Indian music videos playing in the background! The green coconut curry and the fried calamari are must haves! Also a great selection of Indian beer and wines. LOVE this place!

I went here with a friend with a Groupon that I had purchased. I had seen this place around my house but had never tried it because it doesn't ever seem to be that packed. Following the trend, the night we went (which I believe was a Wednesday) was not packed either; actually we might have been the only people there when we arrived. A couple other tables arrived after us, but for the most part it was a pretty slow night. We decided to sit outside which was nice because you could sort of hear the crowd noise from the restaurant next door so it didn't feel so empty. Anyways, for the food we decided to get the grilled lamb skewers and the chicken vindaloo dinner. The dinner came with a bowl of chicken soup, rice, and lentils. The lamb was pretty tasty and was served with a nice cream sauce that went well with the dish. It was a healthy portion as well as both dishes were enough food for both of us. The vindaloo was also very flavorful and went well with the rice and lentils that it came with. Overall, both dishes were very good and a good deal with the coupon we had. The owner also threw in some free dessert for us at the end which was a type of rice pudding that was a great cap to the meal. I wish this place had a bit more ambiance, but the food is definitely worthwhile. Worth checking out for takeout or dining in if you don't mind it being a little lonely. Service was very friendly and they have some killer $5 lunch deals that are worth checking out as well.
(4)Joselin G.
To say the food here is amazing is an understatement, every single dish that I have tried is full of rich flavor. The service is extremely good and very attentive! The restaurant is not too big but large groups still fit comfortably. There is an outside patio that can be rented out for events! Definitely worth a try if you're in the area or want some authentic Indian cuisine!
(5)Jason L.
I had the lunch special, and couldn't even finish my plate. Friendly, Fast, and Delicious. It was so goooooooooooooood!!!
(5)Rapp E.
Delicious food and very friendly staff! This is the first Indian place I'd been to in LA and it was great. I even love the "colorful" decor.
(5)Rachel G.
Delicious food and very attentive service. We ordered the tikka masala and the aloo ghobi. Both we're very flavorful. We appreciated how tomato-y the masala was. And don't forget the naan, served piping hot. It was soft and fluffy, like a warm and tasty cloud that I want to be wrapped in forever.
(5)Bali B.
Indian food is my favorite, I have been coming here for years and it never seems to disappoint. The staff is always very happy and greet you the moment you walk in. Always making sure your water is full as well as your belly. The lamb is always cooked to perfection and (my favorite) sag paneer is always cooked great. They cook it practically in front of you as the kitchen is adjacent to the main dining room. They have a nice shaded patio that is perfect for the hot sunny days ns decorated nicely. They also have great affordable and almost too much to eat lunch specials. I love this place :0)
(5)Naomi H.
I love this place!!! Great atmosphere for date night quiet and relaxing. The waiters are wonderful and polite. They are very attentive and sweet. The food is sooooo bomb!!!
(5)Anuradha M.
I have come here a couple times with my husband and once with my in-laws. I am pretty picky when it comes to India food considering I have a mom who makes the best Indian food in the wold. The thing I absolutely love most about this place is that they make homemade paneer. As a vegetarian (not Vegan), I really love paneer and it is rare that Indian restaurants will have quality paneer. Usually it is frozen or old. Here they make it fresh and you can tell. Some dishes I highly recommend are the Paneer Barbeque. I don't believe it is on the menu and you have to specifically request it. It is definitely their signature dish. Their naans are also definitely generously sized. I would recommend the garlic, onion and/or the paneer naans. You wont' be disappointed. I have also ordered the palak paneer, kadai chicken and malai kofta. I wouldn't say they were mind blowing, but I would say they were above average Indian dishes. The most important thing to look for at Indian restaurants is freshness and not too much cream in food. I did specifically request less cream.
(4)Jesse S.
Some of the best chicken tikka I've ever had. Worth every penny. Very attentive staff.
(5)brad c.
Great food, friendly staff, we eat here about once a week. Nothing fancy in terms of decor, but you will have a great meal and really relax. They run Bollywood videos all the time and they are a blast. You can budget maybe $25 a person including a Kingfisher beer and be satisfied. Kid friendly, the parking on La Brea can be dodgy, read the signs. The funniest thing at East India was during Oktoberfest when the (good) German Pub next door was blasting Oom pah pah music. It must have been tough on the staff. We took an Indian friend there (nervously) and he ordered something to challenge the kitchen, and they passed with flying colors. There are so many bad (and expensive) restaurants in LA, give these guys a chance. Only caveat is to discuss the menu with the server, and when they say spicy, they are not kidding.
(5)Chris T.
Great service and food. Check it out and get the Tikka Masala. Garlic Nan is great also.
(5)Patrick K.
I've been going to this place for a few years now and the food is always delicious!!!
(5)Derrick O.
I wish I can give them 6 stars, they are such a wonderful staff.. Beyond their great food. Usually there are different experiences when I visit a place more than once, but not here. The staff even remembered me and what I liked. The manager took his time to ask us for anything we needed compliments of him because it was my girlfriends bday. They are truly Godly people that aim to please. I love love Makhani Tikka Masala its my absolute favorite and a safe palette to try for first timers and experts. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place. Enjoy guys !
(5)Guy D.
I really like this place. The food is delicious and it is evident that they want to make your experience special. The tikka masla and the tandoori medley were both awesome!
(5)Micki B.
This place must be a well-kept Indian food secret, because this place is usually empty. But don't be fooled! The food here is great, prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and attentive, and I love that they're open late-ish. My usual order is the tomato shorba (yummy tomato soup!), with the eggplant bharta dinner special. Not the best Indian food I've ever had, but there's a ton of choices and it's definitely a solid option. Thanks for another great dinner, East India Grill! PS- if you're using a restaurant.com certificate, it's cash only. Not sure if that's the norm, but here's a gentle reminder nonetheless.
(5)Christin P.
OMG! Loving this place. The food is just amazing. It's our first time here and they were so helpful helping us chose some great dishes they were sure we would like. And we totally did. Can't wait to come back.
(5)Owen S.
Been coming here for a while. Really love the curry. Especially the tikka masala. Mashhad the main manager guy is really cool and Love the server dude is pretty funny dude.
(4)Rebma M.
The service is wonderful! Such a friendly and attentive wait staff, and my Chana Masala with saffron rice was absolutely delicious. It really feels like a home there -I'd go every week, if it were in my neighborhood!
(5)Angel B.
Great service terrific attitude love the place and the food fantastic. Why would go any other place they really take care of you at this place and very convenient you have to try it.
(5)Pamela E.
The best Indian food that I have had in Los Angeles!!! I have been to India and have tasted authentic Indian food and they have mastered the taste here in America! You will not be disappointed. The service is wonderful as well. Hurry, before everyone catches on and packs the place!!! Fabulous!
(5)Corey M.
UHHHHH! WHAT IS HAPPENING!?!? You know that nuclear reactor alarm ringtone? That could have been the soundtrack for tonight. Everything was just. so. bad. Entering, the Indian chef looks at us and said "hola". This should have been our first red flag. As we walked past the straight up rude hostess, she thrusts menus in our face (no exaggeration) and says table number 9 as she gestures to the lonesome table by the window. Okay. We sit down and were not help for a good amount of time. I need to add that this day was the last day of groupon, but it truly wasn't terribly busy. Eventually, the hostess switched hats and became our waitress. She quickly took our orders and left. She walked away a number of times while one of us was in mid-sentence. It was bizarro land. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but it was by far the most flavorless Indian food I've ever had. Everything was so obviously rushed. And there were two bones in my fish vindaloo. Ugh. To which she said, we get it from the store like that, so sometimes they don't debone everything. Professional. The waitress/hostess couldn't give us our check fast enough, as well as get us out of the restaurant. We happily obliged. I really hate giving restaurants poor reviews, and I rarely do it. However, this place made me feel hated and unwanted. I will never return. On a lighter note, the Taj Mahal lagers were delightful.
(1)Larisa P.
I go there every week with my husband. The food is so good. It's my favorite indian restaurant. The servers are really nice and the food is served fast.
(5)Marvin P.
It's was a great choice to come to this wonderful Indian restaurant. My parents and I were treated wonderfully by the staff there. And the food was very delicious as well! It's a small little place but worth the money. We had a great experience going there. We'll definitely be back many more times here!!!!
(5)AJ R.
This place is 5 stars without question. The folks that work in there are always very friendly and they seem to recognize me every time I come in..... regardless of how long its been since I've hung around. My favorite plate is the Chicken Tikki Masala and it's incredible. There is SO much flavor it boggles the mind. Going here tonight simply reinforced that not only is this the best Indian place in Los Angeles, its one of my favorite places to have dinner period. Bravo!!
(5)Love S.
Yesterday I was walking down the street and I saw this place...it was so full...I hardly find a table in there and order some food....it was awesome..the service was too good.they guys are so friendly..the best thing was that they guys gave me 10% off..I really like this place...I love this place...now I know where to go when I m hungry ....
(5)Courtney W.
Delicious samosas, delicious vegetable korma, fresh naan, and probably the best mango lassi I've ever had. I think the only thing I didn't like was the tomato soup that came with the entree. Too sweet and way too salty. There's another soup option but it had chicken in it. We sat on the patio despite the server's warning that many customers don't like to sit out there because wind blows dust in your food. Weird advisory to dining customers but luckily we didn't have any problems. It was too gorgeous to stay indoors after 8 hours in the office with full sunshine beaming through the windows. I used to drive past this place every day before I moved but I always thought it was an awkward location because of the parking situation on LaBrea. Parking only on the street but we found spaces pretty nearby. My co-worker and I came here with a Groupon and, always down to try a new Indian place, I had no idea the Groupon was for this restaurant. Yelpers weren't lying when they said this place is always empty. We were the only two there for the entire duration of our meal. For the portions you get for the price, I would certainly recommend this place.
(4)Monica A.
I was not the hugest fan of Indian food but decided to give it another try after friends wanting to have Indian for dinner tonite. I have to say that I was definitely pleased with all of the food- the Chicken Tandoori was my favorite! Green curry w/ lamb, yellow curry with chicken & saffron rice were great too!!!! We also ordered some garlic- basil nann & had some mango ice cream for desert. Everything is made fresh & cooked to order. Restaurant is clean & waiters are very attentive & friendly. I will def be coming back!!!
(5)Jayson M.
I've been going to East Indian Grill for about 9 years now and it is my go to spot for great indian food! My personal favorite is the Shrimp Tikka Masala. Delish!! I definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves the indian spices and versatile flavors. Great service too! Jay
(4)Crystal L.
We had the $12 for $24 Groupon. This is our second time at East India Grill. The patio area is nice and romantic (but too cold to sit outside the second time we went). Food is pretty decent. The gratis pappadum with a mint and a red sauce is fine. My saag paneer dinner was served with a choice of soup or salad (I chose the chicken soup, which was OK - nothing to get excited about), rice, lentils and raita. The paneer was good and there was a lot of food to take home. Girlfriend had the chicken tikka dinner. It looked great but we thought some of the chicken was a little dry and overcooked. The complimentary rice pudding was a nice way to end the meal - even though we were completely full. The pudding had a yummy cinnamon taste and some lovely sliced almonds on top. Overall, a decent place to grab some Indian food. Nice atmosphere, friendly service, easy parking and they frequently have deals. Recommend!
(3)Marcia V.
Been going here for more years than I can recall! We drive all the way from Burbank and it has never disappointed as the best Indian Food around. Service is always attentive and responsive to any need while allowing us to enjoy. It is a bonus supporting a local small business.
(5)Toi H.
Indian food is always hit or miss for me. This was a hit! I was a little worried about parking because it's in that Melrose area. I found parking right in the front, but I think it was luck. I understand there is parking around the back though. Anyway, on to the food and service. It's a bummer that they don't have a buffet; not cause I want to pig out, but I can taste the different dishes since this was my first time. But I ended up choosing the saag dal and my friend had the okra masala. I do not need to go into the specifics of the food. It was just hella gooooood!!! Service was very good also. There was a young guy there that took care of us. He said he was fairly new there, but you couldn't tell. A lady also looked in on us. She smiled and was very friendly. I will be back with some new friends!
(4)Jill M.
Best Indian food in Los Angeles hands down. Chicken Tikka is my favorite, but everything is Delicious.
(5)Trish A.
I took my husband to East India Grill for dinner. I ordered the Lamb tiki masala and he ordered the yellow curry with shrimp, both spicy. Wow!! It was so good! The flavors were spot on and the spicyness was just like we like it. Spicy! My Indian friend had told me about this place and he was right about how good it is! The service was excellent as well. We will be back for more.... : )
(5)Premiere Digital Services D.
Our company loves to have East India Grill for lunch. They are very accommodating to our group size and are always on time with their delivery. The food is outstanding and always a favorite among our office. Everyone's favorite dish is the paneer tikka and the chicken tikka masala. I recommend East India Grill to all of my friends!
(5)Bryan S.
Good experience, we were the only customers so we were pretty well taken care of. I had a groupon which made this meal a whole lot better or else i would be bankrupt. I ordered Chicken Tandoori & my friend ordered Lamb Tandoori i believe. The portions were pretty cool but probably not worth the 48$ they claimed it to be. We ordered no drinks and 1 serving of naan between the both of us. it still puzzles me how it was that much. Taste wise it did well against my indian cuisine knowledge. I was satisfied. I am sure you will be as well.
(4)Kailyn A.
I loveeeee their weekday lunch specials. I've been here over 20 times. I saw the groupon and bought it, but later realized its for dinner only. :::sad face::: $12 gets you $24 but dinners start at $17. Lunch specials during the week are under $10. Better deal without the Groupon. Great Indian food at a great price.
(3)Navi K.
I am going to East India grill I am eat chicken Corma and cheese Nan and chicken tandoori and drink mango Lassi this so good food good drink and nice service I want say the tanks East India grill I love your food tanks Nissan tanks love and Jimi thanks Mr singh
(5)Briahna S.
The best Indian food you will find outside of India! When I'm in LA I always make sure I eat at East India Grill at least once. I always order the Tikka masala with chicken and the Peshwari Naan. The Peshwari Naan is really something special. I don't know what they put in it, but it is sweet (honey?) and crunchy (almonds) and just amazing! The Tikka Masala is the best I have had. It is chicken smothered in this creamy tomato sauce. There is nothing like it, you just have to try it. I had always ordered take out here before, but this trip my husband and I decided to try eating at the restaurant. We were not disappointed. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Our server even brought us some delicious ice cream that tasted like green tea ice cream (a very good thing) at the end of our meal. I can't say enough good things about this gem of a restaurant. It remains my favorite in LA despite trying new places every time I'm in town. Like most places in the area, parking can be an issue. You should drive around behind the restaurant and they have parking under ground. Don't miss East India, you will not be disappointed!
(5)S. P.
I get more takeout than dine-in food from this restaurant and I can say hands down, I've never had paneer tikka masala as good as I've had it here. I usually order this with aloo ghobi ala carte because the serving sizes of both are huge and it lasts me through 4 meals (a big scoop of each over rice...4 TIMES!). The creamy tikka masala sauce is savory, it's nutty, and it's probably bad for you, but it's amazing! Oddly enough, I'm always weighing reasons to stay in Los Angeles because Dallas now offers a lot of what LA does, but I have to honestly say I'd miss this restaurant terribly if I left again. On a disgusting side note, Indian food goes through me like a race horse, but their food is so good here, it's worth it. I suppose that's high praise, no?
(5)Kitty C.
I came here this weekend with a Groupon, and went way over, lol. Groupons will do that to you, give you a false sense of spending leeway, then before you know it, the bill is more than it would have been without it, but I digress. Anyway, everything here was delicious. Chicken korma, tandoori chicken, naan, wings from hell, all of it very good. My boyfriend liked his beer and they have some good wines there. I just wish this place was closer to my end of town, but hey, we had a fun excursion. The service was very attentive, a bit more than I am used to. I'm not sure if the servers were either a. nice and attentive, b. wanted to see if we wanted something else before they started cleaning up for the night or c. bored (it wasn't that busy, which I don't understand, because this place is awesome). I'm leaning towards them being courteous. I highly recommend this place if you are in Beverly Hills.

My favorite Indian food in all of LA. You must try the tikka masala and Parmesan nan, great vegetarian options. Friendly owner! Delivery! The best food:)

Labli is the most entertaining waiter I recommend him !! Lovely Labli !! Omg awesome ! And great food so delicious have lots of great curry and naan!!
(5)Chris M.
The East India Grill is by far the best Indian restaurant that I have ever been to! I came here with a Groupon and I am so glad I did. The service was outstanding as well. I will definitely be back soon!
(5)Elizabeth M S.
Amazing samosas, perfect chutney to go along!! My boyfriend hates lamb. I ordered the lamb vindaloo he tried it and loved it. Delicious naan could not stop eating it. Overall great customer service. I had a great experience, definitely recommend and will be coming back again this time to try their highly recommended chicken masala!

Take me with a grain of salt, as Indian food is not a specialty of mine and I'm not that knowledgeable about the cuisine. That said, I went here for lunch today and it was amazing! I know people who swear by this place, and now I will too! I ordered the korma curry with paneer cheese, and it was to die for. Every bite held three distinct flavors, that revealed themselves to you as you chewed. One of my previous Indian food outings was Tantra in Silverlake, which was bleh - everything tasted the same, and there were no flavor surprise lurking anywhere. This dish, though, was surprisingly sweet and spicy and rich all at the same time, and everyone else at my table agreed re: their dishes. Also, lunch specials start at $6, so score! (As for the people concerned about the service - honestly, it's old school style service, same as you'd get overseas. Yes, they might hover, and yes, they might some time bringing you the check (though only about 5 min for us), but that's their style of service. They want to make sure you're happy and they don't want to rush you out the door.)

A great Indian restaurant with amazing sauces. Some complain that they are too creamy, but I think there's nothing wrong with a restaurant that puts a unique stamp on their traditional dishes. Great chicken tikka masala, great korma. I wish the serving sizes were a bit larger for the price, but still one of my top Indian places in the La Brea area (the other being Crown of India).
(4)Sean T.
Actually not bad compared to most Indian places around. Good service. Owner always nice. I have been a few times.
(4)Rachel B.
Delicious. Their chicken tandori and saag are both incredibly flavorful and delicious. They also have a large delivery area and are very speedy. This is my go to for indian delivery in the hood.

Large dinner portions and the naan was was perfect. And by perfect I mean enough to stuff you silly and have extras to take home for leftovers and make it look like you didn't eat a single thing. ;-) The naan was fluffy and chewy with a crisp to it. Yum. Most other Indian restaurants I've been to serve naan the size of your hands next to each other. Well at this place, that's HALF a piece. It was a gigantic, indulgent piece of naan. My friend asked them to bring out butter and raw sliced onion with it too (not on the menu and not sure if it's traditional or even common, but spread a little butter and place a slice or two of onion on your naan, bite & enjoy! It's delicious and I highly recommend giving it a try). The waitstaff and owner were so friendly and welcoming! I thought that was worth mentioning because I've been to several Indian restaurants where the people working there would snub you for pronouncing something wrong. =( Nothing like that here! So if that's the only thing standing between you and a good Indian meal (which for me usually is...), fear no more! East India Grills got yo back. ;-)

Luncheon Specials are THE deal @ $7.95. There are several Tandoori selections and several Curry selections at this price. The $7.95 for either the Tandoori or Curry selections are served on a 12" round metal plate that has a lip all around to keep the food "in". On this big plate is a huge dollop of a veggy (this time it was an Indian garbanzo medley...it might vary day to day....I'm not sure) Next to that is a lightly dressed lettuce salad, a lot of Basmati rice , the main entree you selected & lastly a small container of raita (seasoned yogurt) They bring at no extra charge two condiments...a green chutney & a red sauce . Anything else is extra. Plain Naan $1.95. Seasoned Naan $2.95 Like others have mentioned on Yelp : parking is on the street by meter OR they if you take a side street to the alley in the back there are only two covered spots above ground BUT to the left of those two spots you will see a ramp downward to the "basement" where there are maybe 10 more parking spots that can be difficult to maneuver out of once you get in. If you have a big SUV or truck...I suggest you avoid this basement "lot". There ARE stairs as well as an elevator to take you up to the restaurant. We ordered the Tandoori Fish lunch and a Green Coconut Curry with Chicken. (both were tasty & plentiful) We used a Groupon NOW coupon $5 for $7 ....not great but better than none!

My low rating isn't a reflection of the food, but of the management. This place is a few blocks from me so I had $100 of barter scrip. (I'd planned to take several people there, spending well over $200 on the meal and coming at a non-busy time.) When I came to eat there prior to the big dinner, I was told they no longer take scrip. They'd not told the barter company; they just stopped taking it. They let me use a bit of it, but didn't care that I was basically out a lot of money, and likely others were too. I happen to tip well so they'd have done well to take this from me and keep a customer. They didn't see it that way. They lost a customer. Speaking to the food, I can say the curries are creamy. Curry wasn't so creamy in "regular" people's eateries in India and I don't recall it being so creamy in London area, but I loved it here. The tomato soup is not worth trying. (They don't call it tomato soup but that's what it was.) I'd say it's a nice place to eat and that the food is good California Indian. I just can't recommend it.
(1)Caroline Y.
I swear this is like the only Indian restaurant I go to or something. So ever since my last review I haven't eaten Indian food. My friends decided to come here of all places. Kinda funny. Well...the second time around was just okay...just like the first time. I need to try another Indian restaurant. Oh and Indian beer is not all that good. It was called Karma. How original.
(3)paul c.
Yesterday wad the last day of Groupon $10 for $20. The place is not too busy. I order one Coke($1.95), one plain bread($1.95), 2 Indian egg roll($3.50), one main entree called Curry Shrimp coming with rice and soup($14.95), only 5 or 6 tiny shrimp mixed with onion, All don't taste good. The check total is $24.50. Expensive and back taste. Even with coupon, I still need to pay $15 for those bad stuff. even not better than a Mcdonald's $1 cheeseburger. Highly not recommended.

I felt like I was buying a used car or a gym membership rather than dinner. WTF??? I've never wanted to fight a waiter in my life, but that is no longer true. We were sat and MAAAAAYBE twenty seconds later we were asked to order. There was no wait. No parties trying to sit. Nothing. I politely said, "Can you give us a minute?" Fifty-nine seconds later. "Okay, what would you like to start with?" (How about some pizza shooters fuck face?) "Um, I haven't even looked yet. Just give us a second please?" This happens three more times over the next two minutes. I SWEAR!!! We were pushed into ordering our appetizers, entrees and I ask for the naan to be brought with the meals. BING! BANG! Naan on table, no meals. The experience goes on an on and on. The food was below average, the service extremely pushy/borderline rude and I wanted to punch a waiter. And I don't punch people. The lesson...stick to what is good. India's Tandoori on Wilshire.
(2)Joshua S.
Right. So, the food here was fine for the price. I've had better, but it didn't disappoint. Everything was good and they had large portions. The gripe I had with this place was the mini bar style service I received. They place put down a couple of samosas and naturally me and my girlfriend ate them, thinking that they were complimentary. They were fine and I might have ordered them anyway, but I don't like being charged for food I didn't order, it really sours me on a place.
(2)Louie C.
I been coming here a long time, though not very often, maybe once a year. The food is DELICIOUS and service is outstanding! It is a little pricey... but pretty comparable to other Indian restaurants. But like all restaurants for me, good food is not enough... it's their good attitude that will bring me back.
(4)Ryan M.
Thumbs down. I vouch that it did nothing for me.
(2)Lindsay B.
I have a confession. I'm addicted to the Chicken Tikka Masala at East India Grill. It's got the perfect blend of creaminess and spiciness. Be sure to get lots of fluffy naan to sop up the delicious sauce. Their samosas rock, too.
(5)Raj J.
First let me start off by saying that I am Indian, and as such, have spent my whole life searching for good Indian food. Since finding this place a few years ago, I make a point of going as often as I can. It is a great place for lunch (their lunch special is a great deal...another thing us Indians spend a lifetime searching for) and I make it a usual meeting spot for friends and I. Their Chai is proper, their Kormas are the perfect blend of sweet and creamy with some great flavor, and the paneer is fresh and moist, unlike many other places. I strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a good meal at a great price. Also, a very special thank you to the owner, who always remembers me by name, comes over to say hello, and is always so friendly and helpful. It always feels like I am heading to my uncles place for a great meal. Shukriyah East India Grill
(5)C S.
This place is awesome, the sauces and samosa tasted fresh and homemade. And the cardamom flavored rice, sooo good. This is the most flavorful and fresh Indian food I've had in LA so far
(4)O I.
I've actually never eaten at the establishment, but ordered from them plenty enough to know the food is g.d. amazing. I usually get the Chicken Tikka Masala or Chicken Tandoori, with either garlic naan or cheese naan on the side. YUMMMMM and affordable!!! Delivery time is decent, usually takes about 35-45 minutes. I like the jolly looking delivery guy.
(5)Jason K.
Good Indian food at pretty good prices. If you get the dinner (an entree plus rice, lentils, raita and soup) you will be stuffed to the gills. For two people, one dinner and one entree would definitely be enough. The Mulligatawny soup was pretty gross though, so skip that. --- Take Metro #212, 312, 14, 714, 10.
(3)Brie W.
This place has absolutely delicious, flavorful food. My partner and I went for my birthday and both ordered from the prix fixe menu... It wasn't the cheapest way to go, but it was mouthwateringly delicious and included enough food for one or two more meals (for BOTH of us). My only wish is that they would allow the prix fixe meals to be something split by two people. It was just too much food and the dishes took up every last inch of space we had on our table. Attentive, friendly servers. Street parking is available on La Brea at meters and on side streets. Side note: Not sure what it's called, but the eggplant dish was AMAZING. So full of flavor.
(5)KayRenee H.
It has been a long time since I experienced such courteous, efficient, professional and helpful service when calling for delivery. It was actually a pleasant experience. They offered to make a vegetarian tikka masala with paneer and they had kashmari naan (or so I thought). The order arrived promptly and was piping hot. Only problem is that the food wasn't all that great. The tikka tasted like straight up tomato sauce. No flavor whatsoever. The peshmari naan wasn't bad, per se, but it was much sweeter and stickier than what I'm accustomed to. It's supposed to be just a little sweet to offset the spice of the meal. I got the other end of the spectrum. But part of this may be user error. First off, I did order off the menu, so maybe the dish didn't have time to simmer. I also made the mistake of ordering "mild," because in SF, when we order hot, the spice is gonna sterilize you. I don't like it that spicy, so I start slow. I won't make that mistake here again. But I will give it another shot because the place has so much potential.
(3)Foodlover V.
Worst food ever. We ordered mattar Paneer, Garlic Naan, Onion Pakora, Fish Pakora, Chicken Briyani, and chicken tikka masala. Garlic naan and onion pakora were delicious but the rest of the food was tasteless. Fish Pakora had too much salt, chicken briyani had no salt and spices, mattar paneer and chicken tikka was ok. We had so much leftover that we decided not to take home...it was a total waste of money...

Good EVERY SINGLE TIME. Every time! I can't believe it. EVERY FREAKING TIME. Cheap, friendly, delicious....love you guys, please stay around!!
(5)Effie B.
I have always loved East India Grill. The Korma sauce is the best I've ever had. I usually get it with shrimp, although I gather this is not the typical protein to go with Korma from the funny look I get from the waitress every time I order it. (Maybe like asking for ketchup to go on lobster?) My boyfriend had never been there before, but I lured him with their special mango ribs, which he loved!! We had a funny experience last visit, when I am guessing our waitress was in training. There was another waitress standing right behind her, staring at us, and didn't say a word. That was rather awkward. I ordered a Yeti beer and was brought a Himalaya, but I don't really care. We got our amazing calamari, but had to ask for sauce and then got another odd look. There was a very loud motor noise coming from the kitchen for most of our meal, which was quite irritating. It was really great that we were asked if we wanted naan as an appetizer or with the meal. I prefer it with the meal. All in all, I still love this restaurant, but I think I like it better in the comfort of my home. BTW- the leftover Korma sauce is also the bomb over scrambled eggs in the morning. You will NEVER find that on the menu!!

indian AGAIN? ah yes...again and and again. i came to this place for two reasons. the first, because i love indian food and i drive by this place all the time. it looked interesting, as most indian restaurants in LA tend to do, and i've wanted to try it. the second, and far more important reason, is that i looked up their menu online and saw that they had a dish called "green coconut curry". i've never, ever seen this on an indian menu and i had to try it. it was well worth it. my whole meal was. i started with the calamari. now, calamari is something i've always associated with high end italian and sea shanty beach vacation restaurants. the first time i tried it at an indian joint was a few years ago, in asheville (shout out to mela). i fell in love with it. east india grill does a particularly good version. spicy, thick batter which is neither too crunchy nor too mushy that goes with both the yogurt sauce and the chutneys. oh, let me say a word about the chutneys. the tamarind sauce looked really tomatoe-y and i thought....oh no. don't be scared by the texture, it is totally on the level. they also give you papadum here, which i feel it not only a plus, but also a requisite to the indian dining experience. for my main course i had the green curry with shrimp, which was super hot (i ordered it that way) and really delicious. i couldn't really distinguish it that much from other indian curries, but it was really good none the less. one thing they did with the shrimp that i really cannot say enough good things about is that they take the tails off. i have accepted that most places don't do this, but i hate having to cut off the tails. and then getting the tails from the sauce. it's just one more unnecessary thing in my life. but here? not a problem. the garlic naan, a thin version of naan, was on point. i like thin and thick naans, but not everyone does so i'm putting it out there. the food is reasonably priced, given the large portions, but neither rice nor bread comes with the meal so take that into account. also take into account that the atmosphere there is really, really charming. it may not be the supreme champion of indian cuisine, although i found it to be quite delicious, it is the most romantic indian restaurant i've been in. they have a patio with plants and twinkling lights and it just has good vibes. too bad i am perpetually dining alone....
(4)Flavin F.
Love this place. Great food, great service. When my family moved to the east side this was the place we missed the most. Chicken Tikka, chicken marsala, naan it is all delicious.
(5)A S.
Solid Indian comfort food. I can't speak to its authenticity, but when you're craving Indian it's a great local spot. For delivery as well.
(4)Anthony R.
Good place. Stumbled upon this place after going to the nearby comedy theater. I had the curry chicken tikka masala. Samosa & naan & galub jamun for dessert. Food was good. Not bad and not great, but worth going if you're in the mood for indian food and in the area. Friendly staff.

I ate here once last summer right before going to see the Decemberists at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a nice summer day, so my friend and I opted to sit outside. I suggested this restaurant because it is a favorite of another friend of mine; so much so, that he eats here every single time he comes to LA. My experience was not as great. First, the tables were dusty and dirty. Yes, I know we were outdoors, but they already had the tables plated, so the dishes and silverware were also dusty and dirty. I don't recall exactly what I ordered, but it was something with chicken. I believe that we had an appetizer as well. Basically, the food wasn't memorable, and what I do remember is being unsatisfied with my meal (my companion expressed the same sentiment). The service could have been better as well. We were one of two tables seated in the entire restaurant, but the service was still somewhat slow. The staff was pleasant, but did not seem to appreciate our questions about the menu items. Overall, this place wasn't horrible, but with so many other restaurants to choose from, I probably wouldn't eat here again.
(3)Alex H.
Loose a star because they lack spicy curries. WTH. Indian food is suppose to make me dread the morning #2.
(2)hillary r.
My absolute favorite Indian food--and takeout--ever. We order every week--it's become a family tradition. My favorite is the paneer tikka masala. The chicken korma, or the lamb korma, is also a big hit. The green curry and the samosas are also tasty, and part of our order if we share our Friday Indian food feast with pals. Highly recommended, order takeout or pay Raj a visit!
(5)Treasa M.
We got DELIVERY for lunch for work last Friday. I ordered Paneer Tikka Masala - came with rice and cooked veggies + 2 large pieces of Naan on the side = so yummy. Only negative? Severe food-coma after eating it which doesn't help with Friday afternoon slumps. Well worth every penny!
(5)Monica L.
We like this place, come about every other month. Never a line. This place is underrated. The food is good, the service is good. There's alcohol. The clams with curry are amazing! The restaurant.com coupon makes it even a better deal.
(4)Judy L.
They had the WORST Chicken Tikka Masala EVER!!! I mean it literally tasted like the sauce from Spaghettios. I have never experienced that before at any Indian restaurant. Just don't order that here. However, their naan was the best! What a contrast. When i was there, we were the only customers, so it was pretty empty.
(2)Z Z.
I was always under the impression that Indian food is known for its spices. Apparently East India Grill has opted to defy that tradition and serve tasteless food that is SOOOO not spicy. Bland Bland Bland, that is what the dishes should be called. I got the bland tasteless samosas, they were basically just big french fries stuffed with potatoes and peas...there was not one bit of the spicy flavors that I love in Indian cuisine. The potato naan that I got was soggy and tasteless as well. Paul got a chicken dish and it was just bland and boring. He did not even know that there was no rice involved in the dish until he got home and opened the container. Thank goodness we had rice here we could heat up for him. No need to go in to more detail about which chicken dish he got because I doubt it would make a difference. We were so bored and unimpressed. We don't plan to go here ever again. B O R I N G.
(1)Nadia V.
I have no idea why, when boy toy tries to create romantic dates they always end up in fights. So we ended up going here to grab something to eat. The samosas were okay, and so was the food. But one thing i did love was the Onion Naan. Soooo good. I will be back again just for that :)
(3)Jan D.
I don't really prefer to eat here again.. i mean i know indian food is expensive but i had much better indian food (such as in Studio City). The Garlic Nan was BOMB though, but the tandoori chicken was okay.. it wasn't that bad.. it sort of reminded me of a more drier version of Dino's Chicken.. you know, the "crack chicken." I know you may be wondering, what?? you compared it to Dino's?? The price is certainly different.. I had paid almost $20 for 2 orders of Garlic Nan and an order of Tandoori Chicken.. it fed two people though, but Dino's chicken was $5 something a pop.. and it lasted me two meals.. haha.. but anywhoo.. if you had been to both places, you will understand what i am talking about.. :) but yea.. parking sort of sucks and the service.. ehhh.. bad.. i came in for pick up and they charged me for another person's to go order and the workers are a bit slow.. it took like 3 mins to bag my order.. and on top of that.. they wen tto serve someone else at another table even though he made a mistake.. but i am going to be nice and give it a 3.. i'll maybe give it one more chance..
(3)Jennifer S.
My best friend and I were soooo ready to love this place. We'd both been deprived of Indian food for a year, plus when we pulled up to the spot, low and behold a meter parking spot right in front. SCORE! But then we ordered, and our food came out. Meh. The food was OK. I mean it looked like Indian food, it smelled like Indian food, but it tasted...well, sort of bland. The naan was soggy, and I kept searching for some salt to pour on my spinach saag. Ah well, the hunt for great Indian food in LA continues.
(3)Neelie M.
Love this place! Paneer Tikka Masala is my favorite, but anything you get there is amazing. Their sauces that are already on the table are great...especially the green one. It's too bad that the only parking is street parking...that becomes a slight hassle. Other than that...recommend this place! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the employees need to learn how to smile. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but I enjoy when the waiters having a pleasing disposition and a smile on their face.
(4)Nova P.
Best food. Ever
(5)Sarah K.
The food was fresh, hot and yummy. Wonderful service ! We bought the living social deal which was 50 for 100 really good deal. Ordered 4 dishes and 2 glasses of wine came to 96.00 spot on. 10 for tax + 20 for tip so still not a cheap night at 80 total but really was enough for 4 people which would have been pretty economical - lots of yummy leftovers for next day.
(5)Matthew G.
This place is just awesome. I've passed it often, wondering if I should stop in (and knowing that I love Indian food). I'm glad I did. It was so freaking good. Good portions, great taste. I had the chicken tikka masala and the saag paneer, with the garlic & basil naan. Holy hell. Good masala, not too sweet (sometimes there's too much coconut) and not too tomato-tasting. A good mixture. The saag was just as good. Maybe the best I've had in LA period. And the naan was really great. I could probably have gone for some more garlic, but I'm a serious garlic addict. My only tip would be, if you like spice, to order the spicy. I love spice and got the medium because at some Indian places, the spicy option just lights your mouth on fire. But the medium wasn't very spicy. Go full spice if you want it. Other than that, get to this place. There is some pretty damn good Indian food in LA, but especially in this neighborhood, East India Grill is my new spot.
(5)Jennifer P.
Absolutely the best Indian food around town! I have been to many Indian restaurants in LA and this one can't be beat. I usually go for the Makhani Tikka Masala Curry which is so, so good. For appetizer, we got the curried mussels which were very saucy and delicious. We also ordered the Saag Paneer which was tasty. The Garlic Basil Naan was a perfect pairing and came out warm and soft. For dessert, we ordered the rice pudding, which I didn't try because I was too full, but it looked amazing! It was a pretty good deal for how much food we got. We had enough leftovers to take home for later! My first visit was just three weeks ago and I have already been back for more! The staff is attentive and extremely polite. I can't say one bad thing about this place!
(5)Prasanna J.
Good food, quick service. I was surprised with the custom create options available. They had tofu as a protein choice in addition to Paneer for vegetarian curries. We also tried Biryani, dal tadka and sweet lassi. The lassi in particular was one of the best I have tried so far. They also have a wide selection of Nan breads. A good place to go back in Hollywood area.
(4)Rayshawn W.
The food here is good enough but the service is lacking. Came for lunch to use a Groupon I had purchased which I'll never do again for this place. There was a huge confusion over the Groupon and what it could be used towards. There was more confusion than there needed to be and ultimately I ended up spending more on top of what I had purchased...very misleading. The server also didn't understand much of what I was asking in terms of the plates and which meats could I order on the side without ordering an entire plate. A lot of whispering and stares as well so to my questions and Groupon situation from the staff. If I'm in the area, this would be a last resort if I'm in the mood for Indian cuisine. More so If I'm in desperate need which would never be the case Lunch 8/9/2014
(2)Tasty T.
I stopped by again but for lunch. The lunch specials are very amazing. The staff are friendly and provide great customer service. It is quite relaxing sitting outside on the patio as well. I will return for sure!
(5)Hospitality C.
Best authentic east indian food I have had in a long time. The service was awesome too.
(5)Izzat A.
Went here for dinner and a $100 LivingSocial credit. Started out with samosas which were pretty good. Also tried the mango lassi which was pretty bad. Also tried the tomato soup that comes with the entree and it was okay. Got paneer tikkah masala which was pretty good. My wife liked her malai kofta as well. Portions were really good sizes. Service was friendly. All in all, a pretty okay place. Certainly not the best place I've had but not the worst. With the LS voucher, it's a really good deal.
(3)Renata A.
I was craving for some lentils. Ridiculous portion for such a good amount of rice. Bad served meats. Not even a single pita bread. And that weird bad salty yogurt. Not worthy.
(3)Lucy C.
This place never disappoints! Very flavorful food and wide variety too. I'm vegetarian and they have so many options for me. They also let you choose what level of spiciness you want for your food which is nice. All in all, a must visit if you're in the area wanting to try something new or simply are craving some good Indian food.
(5)Dylan K.
Everything was amazing. Good service, very attentive and willing to help. Easily the best Indian food around town
(5)Linda W.
Nooooo... and no. Came here for a groupon deal - $12 for $24 worth of food. Definitely one of the more bland and distasteful Indian restaurants I've been to. The chicken tikka masala tasted awfully weird; sauce was really sweet and the chicken was dry. Lamb vindaloo was unimpressive as well, spices seemed to be off. Sure, ambiance is pretty decent, and they serve alcohol. But really, I don't see alcohol as a "plus" to an Indian meal. Prices are okay, but for this kind of food quality I'll definitely pass. Nothing more to say; save yourself some money for better Indian food!
(2)Jay A.
Strong Yelp reviews convinced us to give this place a try for lunch today. We arrived about Noon and the place was a tad quiet. We were seated at a lovely table outdoors. Place appeared friendly and very clean. Only thing that was not clean was the glass globes (lights) on the ceiling fans. The globes were filled with dead insects. Someone needs to take these things down once a month and wash them out. Surprised the city inspectors did not catch this. We chose to split an order of Onion Pakora as an appetizer. The menu depicts this dish as classic Pakora in a chickpea flour. There were a myriad of problems with this dish. What we got were thick cut fried onion rings with a spicy thick crust. They used either turmeric or paprika in the batter. Regardless of what they used the dish did not work at all. I am a major Indian food buff and know good Pakora. This clearly was not good and not what the menu suggested. The tamarind dipping sauce which accompanied the Pakora did not help. I did enjoy a 5 star sweet lassi with lunch and some very good pappadum with appropriate dipping sauces. Thus far the Pakora was the issue. My ,main course was the Baigan Bharta lunch special. It was a 3 star dish as I have had much better Baigan Bharta. One thing which annoyed me was the fact there were full sized chunks of ginger in my sauce? Hard to chew and/or digest full chunks of ginger. The rice and veggies on the plate were okay, nothing special. We split an order of pistachio kulfi for dessert. It was good' however, had a slight icy consistency. The icy consistency comes from keeping ice cream, in this case kulfi, too long in the freezer. The staff here are extremely nice. The atmosphere is lovely. However, there are issues making it tough for me to select this place again.

Excellent food and excellent service. Groupon made a great value. Very friendly and attentive service. Eggplant, saag, tofu masala.....amazing and nice treat of mango ice cream on the house....we will be back!!
(5)Anant G.
Amazing food and very nice and clean restaurant. Had Eggplant Bharta (10/10) & Chana Daal .. Perfect quality and taste, Owner will also attend you personally and will make sure everything is right !
(5)Karl N.
This is possibly the WORST Indian restaurant I have ever been too. The food is terrible. Tough over cooked chicken in a flavorless tomato sauce (think Cambell's soup) I have never walked out of a restaurant in my life but this place is so bad. Disgusting food.

This is by far the best Indian food we've had... The service is the best I've felt in a looooong time with all the staff, including servers and hosts making us feel welcomed and like family... The food is BEYOND GREAT and with a freshness that can't be beat... For Starters we had the Samosas and Spinach and Potato Sagaloo along with the butter and Shrimp Naan. AMAZING!!! Then as the main dish, I had the Lamb Korma and Short Ribs with Saffron rice...(I'm drooling as I'm typing it was so delicious) Overall, the food is FULL OF FLAVOR without overdoing it, very well balanced. I did try out the King Fisher Lager which complemented the food to perfection. I'll definitely return to this restaurant and know, that my family and I will be very well cared for in food and treatment... The layout of the restaurant is very cozy... Plenty of metered parking available...

I only wish I took a photo, my boyfriend and I were craving some good Indian and this did not disappoint, the outside seating area has the best vibe for the early evening date night. The service was a little slow but I almost like that b/c then you know it's all made fresh to order!! The price fix menu is the way to to 20.99 for 4 dishes - I got the lamb korma and my be got chicken makhani both amazing. The owner was so polite and even treated us to some strawberry ice cream, will deff be coming back here!

East India Grill has been my favorite Indian restaurant for years. I usually share a lunch entree because the portions are enormous. And I almost always order the chicken mulligatawny soup because it is delicious and feels like a full meal. Rarely do I leave without a doggie bag. When out of towners want ethnic food I take them to East India Grill and boy are they impressed!
(5)Jasper M.
The best Indian food in LA!!!! After traveling through India this restaurant reminded me of my trip. A friendly staff always with smiles and great service. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
(5)Beth C.
It'd been a while since the hubs and I had been to East India Grill and it as always didn't disappoint! Most people have been sucked into frequenting Wirstshaus next door because it has an extensive beer selection and mediocre entrees and a ping pong table. Yes, go for the beer, then pay East India Grill a visit! We had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, and two kinds of naan. We just couldn't pass up the cilantro garlic one. The only thing that would have made this meal better was to have it accompanied by a beer we loved having in the past called Yeti. Yes, a beer made out of abominable snowmen! The label was awesome. But alas, I guess abominable snowmen are now in short supply. At any rate, it was thoroughly delicious as always, and our server was friendly, witty and very attentive.
(5)Ben B.
The best. Friendly staff and delicious food. Great for take out. A must if you like Indian food or just good food. Try the Chicken Tika Marsala. Good Indian beer selection.

This place used to be my fav Indian spot, but over the last couple of years the food quality has been on the decline. I always order the same thing - tandoori fish (spicy), eggplant barta, and garlic naan. There was a time when I looked forward to spending $60 bucks for two for delivery. But nowadays, my usual is just tasteless. The fish is extra dry, with hardly any flavor. The eggplant is no longer eatable, and the garlic has taken a hit as well. The only logical conclusion that I can come to is that they've changed cooks or ownership. Whatever the case may be, East India grill is about 1 visit away from losing a loyal customer.
(1)Nuo L.
My go-to place for Indian food!! Never disappointment! The owner is very nice and always greet to the customers and make sure people are satisfied. We feel like king and queen here! Excellent food, reasonable price and great service! LOVE

I came here with a Groupon based on my friend's recommendation. It was an amazing deal, but we went way over the Groupon amount because there were so many items that we wanted to eat and we had to feed 4 big hungry homies. Food: 1) Our meal started with an order of CHEESE NAAN, but since it was soo cheesy and delicious that we had to order 3 more before even our meals came out. yelp.com/biz_photos/east… 2) The SAMOSAS were good. Light and slightly crispy exterior with a flavorful, moist meat on in the inside. yelp.com/biz_photos/east… 3) CHEESE YELLOW CURRY was silky and creamy and contained small cube shaped blocks of cheese that complement the curry very well. It's even better when you uset he curry as a dip for your naan. "why didn't you tell me the cheese was so d*** good?!" yelp.com/biz_photos/east… 4) CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA is a staple product that can be found in all Indian restaurants. I've been disappointed many times because the chicken was dry, but that was certainly not the case here. It was so flavorful and tender! Service: Decent service. They're efficient, but not talkative; probably because English isn't their first language. Parking: Street parking on LA Brea. Free after a certain time. I think it was after 7:00 pm?
(4)Tina C.
Food is good and the portions are generous. However, the waiters cannot speak English at all and I'm pretty good at understanding heavy accents. For whatever reason (which they couldn't articulate), they would not accept credit card even though there are pictures of all major credit cards on the door.

I was never really a fan of Indian food and so with that said, today I went here for a work lunch. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated with ample parking in the rear. I had the lunch special lamb Tikka with a lemonade and a Indian dessert and it cost $18.50 without tip. The majority of what was in the metal dish tasted okay and I wasn't crazy for it but I can no longer say I don't like Indian food. The worst part was seeing that my lemonade was $4.50!!! My large plate of food was a little over $9! It was plain minute maid lemonade and outrageously overpriced.
(3)John L.
First time ordering, it took 2 hours and 15 minutes for delivery. I know it was Christmas and they were busy but come on, it you're that busy don't take the order. I could have either ordered from somewhere else or picked it up myself. Never again will I order or eat there. Such bullshit!
(1)Ashley E.
I love Indian food, and I'm sad to say that they really need to improve the flavor and service. I give them one star for at least cooking the meal. I would never come here again. I've had better Indian elsewhere. I got the chicken curry. The curry tasted like baby food. My friends chicken was burnt.
(1)Vinci A.
Stupendous! Our waiter Jimmy was an absolute doll! As a matter of fact, everyone was hospitable and kind. Beautiful ambiance-indoor and outdoor seating with candlelight. The food was quite good. We had a smorgasbord that consisted of the 3 different appetizers(all choices-of which we choose naan, calamari, and samosas) and the choice of 2 different entrees with rice, lentils, spinach, and a yogurt type dish. It was an absolute delight. My man and I eat well-we had leftovers! We were more than satisfied! When you decide to come to the East India Grill, know that you're in for a treat! Oh, btw-they have a Groupon =)
(5)Audrey H.
I finally found a yummy Indian restaurant and it has been here all along!!! Ordered the chicken pakora (fried bites of white meat chicken) to go perfectly with the sauces on the table. Then went big - Mulligatawny soup, chicken tikka masala, mixed grill tikka (lamb, chicken, shrimp, fish), sag paneer, rice, butter naan - and there were only two of us so we had a lot to take home. Totally recommend - the crew was so cool and took care of us. Definitely coming back soon!!!

Visited this place and the way we were shown the table was weird. We placed ourselves at one of the tables and then no one came to take the order until we asked for. I ate both the papads and as my husband didn't get any, I asked if we could get one more and the lady over there gave me a dirty look and the other guy brought 2 papads that were not even properly baked and placed in the used plate. I was surprised but, didn't bother much as they gave me two more when i told them they weren't baked properly. The same woman came to take the order and when we asked for a baingen barta, she was like, can you take anything from our specials? we have paneer something and malai kofta. so, we said ok. the soup served was like desi rasam. very greasy. naan was soft. And the curry was ok as well. But, I definitely have tasted better. I ate my lunch fast and one of the staff members asked me to get up and cleaned the table while my husband was still eating!!!! really??? I did';t even ask as he didn't seem to bother or even wait. And the woman stopped by asking "hey guysssss do you need anything else?" I don't know if its appropeiate to refer customers as hey guys. its ok too. BUT, its NOT OK that both my husband and i are suffering with upset stomachs after everything.
(1)Dylan C.
Lentils, chicken tikka, saag, and service, everything was an a+! Can't wait to be back
(5)M W.
A friend casually recommended this place and we went and proceeded to feast like kings. The "prix fix" is a home run. You'd think with any place that gives you a large amount of food that the quality would suffer--not so here. The tika masala is buttery and beautiful, the calamari is a tasty surprise and the mango ribs.....trust me. Great service, goofy decor, and typically great food.
(4)Mike R.
This was the first Indian restaurant I'd ever been to 15 years ago and it remains my favorite. My experience here have ALWAYS been wonderful. I always get the Chicken Tikka Masala. The samosas are perfect especially with some mango chutney. Tonight I'm getting the Sag Paneer with shrimp. I also have had/ loved the green curry and tandoori chicken. THE CHEESE NAAN IS HEAVEN!!!! The staff is always so polite and accommodating. Definitely give this place a try.
(5)J L.
I hate complaining on Yelp and I only come on here when Im really not happy. Today was one of those days. I went today as I was in the area. It was dead. 2pm in the afternoon. I walked in and was given a surprise look. I needed a late lunch. I sat down, looked over the menu as the waiter stood over me until I was ready. I asked about various things with little to no response. When asked what kind of bread I wanted, I asked what he recommended. He just stared at me until I asked again. They brought me tandoori which was vegetables with saffron rice and nan bread. It was ok. Not much flavor. I've definitely had much better. The waiter stood across the room staring in my direction the entire time watching me and his television. It was pretty annoying. I had to ask for water and had to ask for the check. The bill was $30 - for lunch. I wasn't impressed with this food or the service and I won't be back.

Best chicken tikka masala I had in La. Amazing service. Andddd they gave us free ice cream. Nishan is the man. He is super friendly and made us feel at home.
(5)Alfred B.
We LOVE this place. First Indian food restaurant I paid a visit to during my move to LA and it's the only one I want to have Indian food at. My GF was once not in favor of Indian food however this place managed to turn her around completely. A+ service and very accommodating. Don't pass this place up. You'll regret it.
(5)George M.
I've been here a few times and always had a good experience. It's one of the better Indian restaurants in town. Even if you order the prix fixe tasting menu, you get plenty of food. They give you a lot of sides. We always order a bunch of different things. By now we've probably had 85% of the menu. I'm not going to go into details about dishes. Everything is wonderful. The flavors are great; everything is perfectly cooked. They can prepare anything as mild or spicy as you like. I understand that it might taste better if I ordered it spicy, but I just can't eat too spicy. We always take half of the stuff home, because we want to have so many things, because everything is so good, we can never order little enough. :-) The service is always very polite and cute. They are all very sweet. I just can't say enough good about this restaurant. We will come back more often.
(5)Alexander D.
Highlights: 1. The atmosphere is nice and romantic. The lighting is perfect. I loved the candles on the tables. Wish we would have gone for lunch instead. We asked the waiter for a recommendation, and it was delicious. 2. Chicken Tikka Masala (get it.) 3. Basil/Garlic Naan 4. Music was great. The music definitely enhanced the dining experience (especially sitting outside). 5. Waiter was very attentive and (super) friendly. We will definitely go back for another around. PS. We also got a 10% discount on the meal. Awesome.
(4)Jeff S.
Best indian place in the Neighborhood Great lunch specials. Limited parking in back
(5)Maskit S.
We've been eating at East India Grill for many years and are always delighted by the quality of the food, the portion size and the service. Our children are infatuated with their korma and masla and so are we! We order in and visit the restaurant very frequently to discover again and again how kind, warm and professional the owner and staff are. We highly recommend it with absolutely no reservations!
(5)Kym H.
Love this place! Great service, great prices, great food. Darn, I ate my food before posting! But I'm a regular at least 1 time a month.
(5)Alex T.
I've driven past this spot many of times but never stopped. Well tonight we did, I really enjoy Indian food and this place hit the spot. We first started off with tomato soup then had Nana garlic cheese bread with extra cheese which was amazing, a order of Samosa which I always order and were very good. My girl had the chicken vindaloo and I has the chicken tikka masala. I was shocked when it came out on huge round metal plates with our own rice and yogurt dressing and lentil soup. The service is what you would expect good fast, loud and sometimes hard to understand. Which always makes us laugh. We will come back for sure!
(5)Sara N.
The food was good, the portion were huge, the atmosphere was personable and intimate, I would visit again
(4)Cristina F.
Very tasty. Generous and well priced lunch specials. Friendly server and clean. Free parking in back.
(5)Chait S.
This place has THE WORST service for deliveries. I ordered from Eat24 and it took an hour and 30 mins for the order to arrive and I live 1.5miles from them. Go figure! Order from Cardamom or Anarkali, so much better service! NEVER again!
(1)Don H.
Wish I could give them six stars! I eat a lot of Indian food and have been to most Indian restaurants in Los Angeles. East India Grill stands out from the rest, and I usually try to eat here at least once a week. First, they have outstanding lunch specials, which are served weekdays from 11:30am to 3pm. The restaurant also does not close after 3pm and reopen for dinner, so no worries that you need to finish your meal by 3pm. Unlike many other restaurants with lunch buffets, each dish is made to order. This means that instead of selecting some blandly spiced items that may have been sitting out for awhile, your order is prepared fresh each time. It's a really good choice for vegetarians, as there are a lot of vegetable choices on the lunch menu. Start with their vegetable of the day and then add another vegetable to complete the meal: Saag Aloo (spinach with potatoes), Saag Daal (spinach with lentils), Chana Masala (garbanzo beans in a savory masala sauce), Baingan Bhartha (punjabi eggplant), etc. It doesn't stop there, as meat dishes may also be ordered with many different kinds of sauces. Build your own lunch as you like, and you can still visit plenty more times before ever having the same thing twice! Each dish is prepared either mild, medium, or spicy to suit your taste and comes with complimentary papadam and sauces. I recommend the Chana Masala, as their Masala sauce is so hearty and full of flavor. The Saag Aloo includes a fresh slice of ginger, it's all so fresh! Their Chai Masala Tea is also expertly prepared and refills are complimentary. No sweeteners added, put in what you like (which for me is nothing, since it's already spiced to perfection). I'm usually too full to order any dessert from the menu, but am usually greeted with a small complimentary dessert after my meal. Never expected, but always welcome! Service is friendly and attentive, my only advice would be to ask how long the food would take to be prepared if you are in a hurry. Some dishes take longer than others, and I'm sure they'd more than happy to accommodate your needs. Best of all, the lunch prices are on par with, or maybe even a little less than lunch buffets at other restaurants. I highly recommend them for dinner as well. I've been there for dinner before and the food was excellent, but that's currently more than my budget allows (I'm not singling out this restaurant by any means, I just can't eat dinner out much these days until the economy improves). I based the price range on the lunch menu; dinner is more but you'll also get more food so it's good for groups. Writing this review honestly makes me so hungry that I need to go back soon. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
(5)Ron V.
The staff was nice but it took too long to get the main entrees, even though the restaurant was empty. The sauces were good, especially the marsala sauce, but the chicken was very hard and tough.
(3)Shawn T.
The customer service was outstanding, and the food was wonderful! We definitely will be back here again. We recommend the butter and garlic naan with the chicken Tikka Masala, boneless tandoori chicken, and biriyani.
(5)John B.
This place is definitely for people who don't know or understand real Indian food. Full disclosure - I'm an ex-pat Brit and I know my curries, having been weaned on the best Indian food outside India, in England. I've lived in LA for ten years and have yet to discover anything even approaching what I can find in the crappiest curry house on any high street back home. Frankly, the Indian food in LA is bloody awful. (I've to them all so please don't recommend anywhere, I'm bound have to have tried it already. Actually Samosa House is pretty good but it's veggie and I like my meat. And I like it spicy...) Anyway back to my recent experience at the East India Grill: of all the curry house in Los Angeles - and as previously stated I've been to nearly all of them - this one really plumbs the depths as the absolute worst. The meal I had there was appalling and if the staff and chefs really are Indian they should be ashamed of themselves. I understand that they have to "tone down" their spice levels a little to accommodate the bland Californian palate, but seriously? The food was tasteless pap, total crap. Btw best curry in LA? My place!
(1)Joshua B.
I had a Groupon that I used here. The Parmesan naan was great. I thought their chicken tikka masala was good too, it comes with rice, and yogurt for your ultimate enjoyment. The service was good, they also have a nice Patio. We got a tiny scoop of ice cream at the end.
(4)Stephen G.
We ordered from East India Grill the other night, and it was just okay. Not bad at all, really, but also not amazing. The butter chicken was decent, but a bit dry, and the sauce was too runny. The lamb tikka masala and saag paneer were much better. Decent naan, better-than-average pakoras. Next time, I'll probably go back to one of the places I liked a bit more, like Crown of India or India's Restaurant. Or perhaps I'll try something new.
(3)Vittoria L.
My friend treated me here with her Groupon! I ordered a lamb plate - not really sure the exact name but let's just say that it wasn't memorable. My friend got their famous chicken tikka masala, and boy that was delicious. Eat that with hot fresh naan and you're good to go. I tried their cheese naan, but I think I'll stick to just regular naan. It feels like I'm eating pure mozzarella cheese, and it doesn't seem to go really well with other dishes. Service was very friendly and attentive though. But not sure if I would come back.
(3)Jay S.
Outstanding meal all around. I enjoyed the outdoor patio with heaters. Parking was very easy and we got seated quickly. After a Haywards 5000 (highly recommended beer), we had the samosas and onion appetizers. They were served with a "secret" sauce that brought the dishes to life. For entrees we had Mali Kofta, Benghain bhartha, vegetable vindaloo and the ocra. All were absolutely excellent. We had the saffron rice and peshwari nan to go with it. The service was outstanding as well. We will be back.
(5)Sania F.
Best Chicken Tandoori and Biryani in LA. The food is always fresh! This is my favorite Indian Restaurant in LA.
(5)Nick T.
For VEGANS, VEGETARIANS, or people with FOOD ALLERGIES. DO NOT eat here. unfortunately the staff has a language barrier that doesn't allow them to answer the food allergy questions responsibly. After many times of ordering different meals, asking my due diligent questions about dairy, milk, yogurt etc in the food, I've always been told "no, no animal, no diary, vegan" or just "yes yes vegan" tonight after an inclination I was just being pushed along in the long line of customers I said like I always do, "no dairy, no animal, no milk no yogurt please" and was told what I always order, the NAAN was not vegan. This happened before with other meals and I've had it. The woman who answered the phone didn't know, the manager informed me. He disrespectfully asked me "what do you want?" and kept cutting me off as I tried to quickly and respectfully let him know that because of his employees not knowing what was safely vegan or vegetarian, I had been eating animal products many times in the past few months. I tried to tell him had this been a food allergy I could have became very ill. 1. He was unsympathetic 2. rushed me- if you are busy on a Saturday night, take my number down and give a follow up call to see what is making your customer unhappy. Perhaps what I have to say could possibly help you run your business better. 3. understand by you lacking to present your employees with a FULL ingredient list you are posing a HUGE HEALTH RISK to your customers. Some food allergies result in death, this is serious. How you hung up on me shows how much you care about your customers health. 4. If you say you didn't mean to hang up, you could call back, since you did say you had the # when after I said I order from you all the time you said I only ordered once before. How disrespectful to call me a liar. I was using another cell phone to place a large order but you didn't give me the courtesy to think of that. This post is from someone else's account as well since I do not use yelp. Disrespectful and liable is liable. I asked your servers every time I ordered if items were vegan. That means you are not informing all employees properly, I believe thats a must by law. If you have informed them, then you need to acknowledge that they still don't know, this is a problem & fix it. people should treat people better then this
(2)Zsa Zsa G.
East India Grill has been a go-to of mine for 20 years. Try the Sag Dal (spinach and lentils) and the best eggplant bharta on Earth! The environment is cozy and the service outstanding. A German polka-bar with loud oompah-oompah recently moved in next-door and can be Master Race loud on Friday nights. Even so, get yourself to East India Grill for a great meal!
(5)Caroline R.
My fiance and I ordered take out from here tonight. Where do I begin? This food was probably the best Indian food we've ever had. It was so good, we felt compelled to call and tell them :). It was fresh, piping hot, and out of this world delicious. I got chicken curry, my fiance got the tiki masala - we had cheesey nan, wings from hell, and samosas. So full. So happy. Additionally, it was really easy to order online and the service was awesome when we went to pick up. We will DEFINITELY be back.
(5)Heather W.
My husband and I ventured out to East India Grill after finding it on Yelp a few months ago. We weren't Indian food experts and I was avoiding meat at the time so we needed help ordering. Our server suggested chicken tikka masala for my husband and I had malai kafka, a fried vegetable vegetarian dish. Got the garlic naan (2 or maybe 3 orders it was so amazing) and drenched it in their mint chutney sauce (holy moly, best ever). Ordered the dinner version which comes with a soup (tomato is stellar, haven't tried the chicken) or salad (not impressive, but what would you expect?), along with rice, lentils, and yogurt which all go wonderfully with the main entrée. SERIOUSLY, best combination of flavors either of us have had in our lives. I must be part Indian or something because these flavors just sing hymns to my soul. These people just do it right. We have been back maybe 4 or 5 times again since. The atmosphere is peaceful and romantic, service is spectacular, waiters are personable and funny but don't stick around past their welcome, and they even brought us the most amazing complimentary scoop of pistachio ice cream at the end. The dinners are such huge portions we always have leftovers for 1 or 2 meals. This is an LA secret that shouldn't be a secret.. There's never a wait for a table and we always leave feeling like celebs due to the friendly staff. Please go try this. You won't regret it.
(5)Austin R.
Our office often orders lunch from here and it's always awesome! With the lunch specials, you get a HUGE portion of rice, naan, yogurt, and your main dish. It's enough to take half home and enjoy later. I've had the lamb & chicken--of the two, I prefer the chicken. The tikka masala is of course the most delicious and the vindaloo is my other go to favorite. I always order spicy and it's good but could even be a bit more spicier.
(4)Chris K.
Food was fantastic and the service was even better the only hold up was having some issues with my groupon. Now the food is more than worth full price but being ripped off on the groupon never feels good. They did however do their best to make up for it and because of that I was able to give them 4 stars.
(4)Jenika J.
I love this place! Every time I come here, which would be about 8 times now, I order one of the curry dishes, that come with rice, and salad. The TIKKA MASALA is amazing! Along with the garlic parmesan Naan. There is a gentleman that has been my server many times, his name is Luv. He is very nice, has a good sense of humor, and is always happy. Give him a raise! There is also a lovely middle aged woman, with a very pleasant smile :) I highly recommend coming here!
(5)Rocio M.
The chicken Yellow House Curry is so delicious! It has the right combination of spiciness and sweetness. The calamari is also very tasteful!
(5)Li H.
The food is good, particularly curries like the lamb vindaloo. Service is attentive; I especially like a young waiter who is helpful and professional. The bad part about this restaurant is the upsell to dinner combination, which includes soup or salad, rice, lentils and yogurt. The soup is pretty bad; the salad of lettuce and Italian dressing is not much better. I like rice with curries, but am not crazy about lentils or yogurt. You are better off ordering a large plate of basmati rice (although not that good) for an extra $4.50 (enough for two people) rather than paying $4 extra per plate. When I order the dishes, I expect the default to be a la carte, but the waiter would say, your "dinner" comes with soup or salad. To which I will unwittingly select one, and then be charged. I don't mind upgrading to the dinner combination if that's what I had wanted, but I'd just like to know that this is choice I'm making. Please be sure to specify A LA CARTE because the slick waiter (manager?) will sneak in the pricer dinner combination. Second, I think for Groupon and other similar coupons, the discount is to be taken off before tax is assessed. It's a shame because I like the food here and it was to be my go-to place for Indian food, but it's just the undertones of dishonesty that bother me about this place.
(2)Nicole R.
I have no clue why people praise this restaurant. Ordered it to go and my meal didn't come with rice, which has never happened before. Everything was just blah...the samosas could have been from a frozen package, my tofu korma was bright yellow and without any flavor (even though I asked for medium heat fearing for a true Indian spicy level), and the naan was burned. Keep your money and do not come here.
(1)Carolina Z.
Zomg! I'm in heaven :) We were starving and looking for anything open. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place. We walked in and it looked authentic. How does a place look authentic, you ask? They had legitimate swag drapes, they have the overly enthusiastic waiter designated just to refill water, and they were very polite and hospitable. I have always been fond of Indian style service, so that is a plus. For my entrée, I ordered the Sagg Paneer, curried spinach with soft mild cheese. I prefer Parantha to Naan but it typically is ordered a la carte instead of included. Their Parantha was so good. It is unleavened bread that has a doughy and flaky consistency, whereas naan has a soft and fluffy texture. My husband had the yellow curry chicken. It was really good too, it came with daal and yogurt and the rice was fluffy and colorful. For dessert I had the chai tea, with a ton of sugar, a guilty pleasure of mine. I would definitely come back!
(4)Cara C.
Look for a groupon. They've run them often. It's a good neighborhood Indian place with fantastic service. I die for the pistachio ice cream here, die, I say! I haven't worked my way through much of the menu yet, but I like the saag paneer and the chicken tikka masala. The place is cute and is the standard Indian decor, but they have a nice sized patio. The people who own/run the place are really nice and they are very attentive to their customers. They deliver too.
(4)Laura C.
I don't even like indian food very much! This place is delicious. Def will come back and GREAT LUNCH SPECIALS!
(5)James O.
Just had a fantastic dinner with the gents from East India. When I first walked in a patron proactively told told me I could never go wrong with this place and to call him if I felt otherwise. Thankfully he was right so I won't have to. Short story... food was exceptionally tasty and the service was great. To top it off the waiter chased us down the street to return the phone I left behind. Would recommend this place to all.
(5)Valerie C.
Cute lil place on La Brea. Food was delish, and they have a decent alcohol selection. I tried the Taj Mahal lager (4.5%) recommended by our waitress, it was perfect with my meal. They were extremely friendly, great service, and very timely.
(4)Adam B.
Wonderful lunch specials even on weekends. Huge portion AND delicious and piping hot. I had the chicken korma and fresh onion & cilantro naan and one of my favorite Cabernets on the menu! Service was as good as the food. Will definitely be coming back here.
(5)Simone C.
An hour later and I'm still waiting for my food. All I get from the man on the phone is a "Sorry, our delivery guy has a lot of orders." I guess since they already have my credit card, they don't care about keeping me happy. Never again.
(1)ginger f.
Yum everything here really hits the spot. Other places do one or two things well but here I feel like its all top notch. Staff is very friendly as well! Only thing we dislike is the distracting Indian TV and led Xmas lights.
(4)Danielle S.
This is my favorite indian restaurant in Los Angeles! The food is delicious (Chicken Tikka Masala all the way) and the service is so awesome. They really make you feel like family even when you only go there once in a while. I am 100% loyal to this place.
(5)Kirsten V.
The food is great! Super fresh and Delish! Had the dinner for two which comes with tons of sides! The service is fantastic! Very attentive waiter staff. I know my Indian food and this is probably the best in LA.

I'm giving it five stars but only for The following: paneer masala, cheese naan with green sauce, saffron rice, and some other rice with cashews in it...maybe peas Palau. Oh the mattar paneer is good, too. But the masala is unbeatable. I have tried to beat it and always wish I had stuck with the best at E.I.G. Also, the cheese naan beats all others because it is stuffed to the gills with mozzarella!!!! Which is so much better than putting paneer inside bread. Paneer is perfect for masala, but mozzarella is perfect for naan bread. They are the best Indian restaurant I have found in los Angeles. Although, I don't like the other curries besides the amazing ones I mentioned because they were too bland. But no one can beat that masala sauce.

Was delighted to stop by the East India Grill with my mother last week. I thought it might be a sister restaurant to the East India Grill on Lombard Street in San Francisco that has some of the best tandoori I've ever tasted, but I was told they were not related. The restaurant was empty when we arrived except for one patron at the counter. It was a Saturday night so I was a bit surprised it was not busier, but we placed our order anyway. The waitstaff was very polite and helpful and dressed much nicer than we were. Our order was taken and the food began to arrive quickly with our starters first (as they should be) and our drinks. The Sheek Kabob was very flavorful and they also brought us raita and punjabi papad immediately. We also got samosas and found them to be very flavorful. There was already hari chutney on the table and a red chili chutney as well, but no idli chutney (sweet tamarind) so I asked for some and it was brought immediately. When our entrees arrived they were served traditionally. The chicken tikka came on a hot cast iron tava straight from the oven so they were sizzling with some onions and lemon wedges on the side. The chicken tikka was excellent although I would have preferred it to have been marinated longer. Generally you perforate and make slice marks in the meet so the marinade can infuse the meat, but this appeared to be simply marinated externally so it lost a bit of flavor and was a bit dry. Still it was quite satisfying and tasty. I'm not complaining at all. I'm just saying as someone who eats a lot of Indian food and cooks it at home regularly, it could have been a bit better. They also brought a dal and a palak dish that was out of this world. It's very hard to get the spices perfectly balance with palak (spinach) dishes, but they did it. The balance was absolutely heavenly and I ordered some palak paneer to go, as well. The garlic naan was great and the staff was very attentive. Another thing is that the portions were very generous and we got full very quickly. My mom had a fish curry that was very flavorful and had nice chunks of fish throughout. We were not told what type of fish it was, but I assume it was talapia or something inexpensive. The ghrabi made this dish great. Very nice indeed. I must say that while we sat there the restaurant began to fill up with patrons so I was glad to see that since their food was great. It appeared to be a family operation, as many Indian restaurants are. I can recommend this place very highly and will visit them again when I return to Los Angeles. They are little out of the way down LaBrea, but not far off the main drag and much better than several of the other Indian restaurants I've tried in the area. Go visit them and I promise you a good experience and wonderful food!

Just drove down La Brea looking for a good, new spot to eat at. I ordered the Eggplant Bharta, and my boyfriend ordered the Chicken Tikka. Both dishes were incredible! Great service, great staff... Oh, and the cooks were actually wearing turbans! So authentic and delicious. I will definitely be coming back soon , and bringing friends!

Came for a groupon- the malai kofta is delicious- BUT THE MANAGER GUY IS HORRIBLE. He pretended he didn't know we ordered the dinner instead of just the entree and kept asking us if we wanted stuff that supposed to come with it- so instead of paying 13 dollars for a dinner that comes with soup, yogurt stuff, and rice we payed 11 plus AN EXTRA 11 for rice soup and yogurt sauce. And when we asked about it at the end the manager rudely and loudly stated that 'we should have asked for the dinner then'. SCAM ARTISTS! I am very upset and will not be returning.
(1)Domenica H.
I'm always hesitant come to a place with a Groupon and so-so Yelp reviews. But this placed delivered! Amazing service! Amazing flavors! Pashwari naan passed our naan test. Get the Wings from Hell if you have room for a starter, also the chicken saag and karahi were flavorific! Go for the saffron rice... also $3-4 beers and wines?! Hell yes! We've been to plenty of Indian curry houses now and this one is the one to beat! Between 2 people who had one appetizer, 2 entrees, a pashwari naan, garlic saffron rice, and 2 alcholic drinks, our bill was $55! Not too shabby for dinner, I'd say.
(5)Sri M.
Indians better stay away from this place. You will be treated like .... while they are busy serving the others. You will be taken just granted . Such an Irony
(1)Jon J.
Please don't take 3 stars the wrong way... The service was great. The food was decent. I normally would score this 4 stars but there was a 20 min hold up when it came time to add my groupon discount to the bill. They eventually realized that their wifi was the culprit instead of my "apparent shady" groupon antics. Although they were very apologetic about the matter, 20 min of the staff disappearing with my cell didn't sit well with me... thus... an overall 3 stars. If ure looking for a mid-priced Indian spot, Electric Lotus is your best bet. If price isn't an option, Nirvana in Beverly Hills is totally worth every cent.
(3)Mark D.
If you are looking for savory authentic food and great service, look no further. We have dined at this restaurant a couple of times and have been impressed by the food and service. the ambience is not luxury but the prices are very reasonable. I would definitely return to this restaurant.
(5)Rei E.
As an Indian person from India, I have to say this is really good! Very good service and delicious food! Service was fast, prices were good. Definitely a go-to spot for Indian food when you're in the Mid-City/Hollywood area
(5)Kimi L.
We were hungry and it was kind of late....this place was open, so we gave it a go. Disclaimer* There were 3 of us tonight but I am doing the review based on my experience. Tikka masala....sauce was a little too tomatoey, not anything I have experienced in a masala before. What really concerned me was the chicken....it was super tough and over cooked, not my thing. My main course was not enjoyable, I couldn't even ditch the chicken, to indulge in the masala over my rice. We also got soup with our meals and the tomato soup was a dark color and full of paprika, what's that about? It was pushed to the edge of the table because it just looked and tasted awful. The naan left little to be desired, it was hard, cold, brittle and crunchy. I think I got bottom of the barrel chicken because we went in 40 minutes before closing. There's no excuse for that nor does it make up for the bad soup or the old naan. Oh and the water.....get bottled if it is available, it was nasty. I say nay, next time we'll go to dinner earlier, sorry Yelp but I disagree with the high praised reviews. Service good Ambiance nice 3 stars

This is our favorite Indian in L.A. - I will admit that I haven't tried many others locally, but I have logged many hours on Indian Row in New York City. My attitude is, if you find a place you like, why mess around? The food here is solid, we've tried a lot of it - I find myself going back to the whole fish (spicy) dinner and my wife does the vegetarian green coconut curry. The spicy here has a strong kick but isn't overwhelming. The tandoori chicken, lamb and fish are also good - I prefer the stronger flavors though. While it's not the most Indian thing on the menu, I love the calamari appetizer with the red and green table sauces, and we always order a nan. The mussels appetizer is also fantastic - again, love the sauce! Great bold flavors. Even the tomato soup here is great - it's got a bite to it that takes its simplicity to another dimension. Beyond the food, the service is phenomenal - it's like visiting family when we come here, they know us, and they know our orders before we do half the time! The decor is quaint, but tacky enough to remind us that Hollywood spawned Ballywood - the flat screen TV on the far wall is new, and the Indian pop music videos they pump are almost worthy of a cover charge. Best of all, the food is reasonably priced. Eating out is about more than just the food, and while the food at East India Grill is great, the experience takes it to another level. Love this place!!
(4)Susy B.
Driving around 9pm I found this place by accident. It's great to find a place that is open late for dinner with great veggie, poultry, & fish options. Food was great, service was good & bathrooms were clean. What more do you want? lol Nice evening ambiance in the main dining area and great potential in the patio with lights.
(5)Charlie B.
I know enough about Indian food to know when it's not good. Spare yourself.
(1)Rhythm L.
I've been using yelp for years now, and have yet to write a review. This place was so awesome that I had to do it. The food was amazing, the prices were amazing, and the service was beyond amazing. Go eat here.
(5)Adri R.
Amazing Indian food! Tucked away next to a german restaurant, this place is actually very romantic. Service is fast, food comes out even faster! A little gem in a busy area. Try the Curry lamb.
(4)May P.
I am totally bowled over my this place. The food is always fresh, made-to-order and finger-licking tasty. My favorite is their mutter-paneer (green peas and cottage cheese in a creamy tomato curry) with naan. I must say that what sets this place apart from other Indian restaurants is the flavor and feel of food here is very close to an authentic Indian Dhaba (local North-Indian food joint) and that is why I religiously go dine here atleast once every weekend :) :)
(4)Chris H.
I work in the neighborhood and come here often for lunch. The food is great and reasonably priced. It's a nice atmosphere in their outdoor patio. The wait staff is very friendly and they really take care of you. Will keep coming back!
(5)Athena G.
The food is very good and the wait staff is on top of their game. Highly recommended.
(4)Shauntelle S.
Went here with my husband because of a groupon deal and had one of the worst dining experiences ever. - service = poor. Extremely rude waitresses. Took very long before they took our orders. Refused to make eye contact. Never checked on the quality of the meal. Became upset when we asked for anything (water, to go plate, etc. ) began cleaning the table prior to us finishing the meal and spilled food on my husband's lap. Insisted that we order above the groupon amount that we purchased. - food: average flavor We will NEVER again return! - price: way too expensive!
(1)Shawna N.
I have been coming here for a few years with my friends and boyfriend. It is one of the best we have come across. The food is fabulous with a unique flavorful blend of spices, staff very attentive and fair prices for the amount of food. We dine here at least 2x a month! Must try!
(5)Becky B.
I've been going here for my Indian food ever since my friend came back from a year of living in India and said this was the most authentic Indian food he's found in LA. I can't make that claim as I've never been to that part of the world, but it's delicious. Affordable prices, great taste, great, friendly, super quick service. I moved far out of West Hollywood but will happily take the trip back here since the food is so good.
(5)Teresa A.
I've only been to this place twice, but both times left me wanting to come back for more. We like our spices around here and our curries. We came in for the lunch special, chicken vindaloo. Yummmmmmmmmmm...perfectly spicy, the naan was freshly made, everything was for that matter. And at the end of our meal, the friendly server gave me a complimentary rice pudding! How did he know? Is he channeling his inner psychic into the inner realm of my mind? However he knew I loooovvveee rice pudding, thank you! I've never had an indian rice pudding and I cant tell you how delish it was! If i didn't live in northeast la, I would be there once a week! The staff is super friendly which is a great plus!
(4)Ashley M.
Best Indian I've found in LA so far. If you can recommend better, please tell me. Chicken tikka masala and saag paneer or saag chicken are my go-to options. I can usually eat that for two meals. Samosas are fine. Nothing to write home about (especially because I can find better Indian food in Ohio, which is a little confusing, right?) Overall, its good. The servers are generally kind and attentive. The weirdest thing is that the bathroom is disconnected from the restaurant.
(4)Porter M.
Been dining here for almost 7 years. The staff is very friendly and always remembers me but most importantly the food is FANTASTIC. Get the Korma (spicy as it makes it more mmmm) and the cheese naan. A real treat!
(5)Lauren G.
I've been meaning to visit this place for a while now, especially given their $5 lunch special. Finally, armed with a 50% off Groupon, I made it down for dinner, and it was great. The naan was delicious, and the portions (even for an ordinary order of curry) were huge enough that both my friend and I were pretty stuffed after just half. Usually I go for the typical Tikka Masala at Indian places, but I was feeling adventurous and ordered the Karahi with chicken and medium spice, and it was terrific. And in the end, they gave us a free rosewater rice pudding dessert :) The only problem is that I've never seen the place really crowded. When we were there, there was only another family and a couple at 7pm. By the time we left at 9, they had been replaced by another large-ish family. It's a big-ish place and it was basically empty. But that just meant that the service was good, so I can't complain. Overall a great deal! But a warning -- the menu claims they have a dinner special for two people for $18.95. Fortunately, the waitress cleared it up for us that it's $18.95 *per person*!
(4)Aiyesha K.
one of the best indian restaurent
(5)Meryl N.
I love this restaurant....the chiken tikka is out of this world. The service is awesome, we have brought everyone we know to this restaurant and they have all fallen in love with it. I will not go to any other Indian restaurant....
(5)Tanis G.
I love East India Grill. Start with the tomato shorba as an appetizer. Then get an order of Vegetable Korma, spicy; and Saag Aloo, spicy. Yes, you want rice to go with the entrees; I suggest getting the saffron. Get an order of both regular naan AND garlic naan to go with it and you're in store for a fantastic meal. The service may not be the best, but the food more than makes up for it. Also, they deliver.... and the food shows up about 20 minutes after you order it. Super quick delivery service is always a plus.
(5)Chris V.
PANEER BBQ!!! Soooo delicious! My new favorite Indian restaurant. Service was great! Very attentive and friendly. OKRA MASALA was amazing! Yummy Saag paneer!! I was so happy we tried this place last night. Will definitely be a regular
(5)Ana R.
It's our first time here. We absolutely loved the food and the service. We were served by "Love" (thats his name) He was very attentive, knew the menu so well, and so funny! We are definetly coming back!
(5)Keziah O.
Great lunch menu, delicious food and friendly staff. Parking in the back. Definitely recommend, especially their outside seating area is perfect for dates :)
(4)T H.
Typically get delivery, but chose to dine in their outdoor dining area. Food is always enjoyable, but i found that the quality of food for the done in experience worthy of a 5 star review!
(5)Medina T.
Yelp, why you let me down girl? Nasty. I was hungry not even feeling picky...just wanted some hearty Indian cuisine and this place was close with a good rating. So why not right? Wrong my ninja. Roti Naan: AKA big ass dry ass cousin of Naan aparently. Literally tossed it n used pita instead. Mango Ribs: AKA tomato paste ribs. No mango flavor, waaaaay too much sauce that consisted of spiced tomato paste. Literally. When I finally found the ribs and was hauled back to shore I was sad to find they were awful. If you don't wash or marinate meat, you just throw it in sauce and cross your fingers...this ribs for you. Daal: whatever... Raita: even worse... Last but not least the rice. It is aromatic as hell. If it was a candle I'd light it. If it were shampoo I'd lather it up a little... But it's not. It's fucking rice with no taste which would be ok if all the saucy shit I paid for didn't taste...well...like shit. On the upside there is a fucking ton of it. A little mountain of white on my coffee table making me sad instead of happy. Times have really changed. The people are polite and on time.
(2)Dorian L.
I was definitely disappointed. I was impressed with the size of the appetizers, however, I asked for chili paste to make my food spicier, I also asked for the glass jar with dipping sauce for the paneer cheese appetizer and calamari....since it was slightly on the dry side...and it usually comes with a dipping sauce. After I was finished, I asked for my bill, and I laughed at how stingy the server was. she charged me 2.00 for the chili paste and another 2.00 for the dipping sauce. I have never ever been charged for that, she never hinted it would be extra. Im not crying over 4 bucks, but it is the principal. She should of let me know. That could of been another beer. I felt that was cheap...it ruined my whole experience. I wont be visiting that place again.
(2)John M.
We had garlic and basil naan to start, and it wasn't remotely notable. But my Malai Kofta (vegetable balls deep fried served in a tomato and onion cream) was sublimely delicious. One star off for the cold rice that came with it.
(4)Bassem I.
I eat indian good on too many places in USA and out , honestly one of the best biriyani I have ever eat in whole of my live , tikka masala is adorable too , great customer service and very friendly stuff I feel like am sitting in India very thing is great decor and tv clear place I really love it so much , I love East Indian
(5)Tiffani W.
I rank it the best Indian food I have ever had. It's not greasy or over spiced, just good quality tasty food. We had the green coconut curry w cilantro, tiki Marsala, and spinach saag. All were to perfection. They were under staff so the work was really challenging for the waiters. But we didn't mind. Food was worth it. Plus they even have parking in the back!
(5)Damien B.
This place was amazing... I could smell the seasonings in the air from a block away!! My food was delish!!!! Will be coming back soon!!
(5)Alex M.
Piping hot samosas, spicy vindaloo, clean restaurant, impeccable service. If you're looking for great Indian food on la Brea, this is it! Piping hot samosas, spicy vindaloo, clean restaurant, impeccable service. If you're looking for great Indian food on la Brea, this is it!
(5)Stephanie T.
We purchased a Groupon to dine here. It is Groupon policy that you have to let your server know you are using it before you purchase your meal. We told the server and he sarcastically responded that "Oh yes you are a very important customer" then they wouldnt let us use the Groupon because we didn't have enough people in our party even though there is nothing about that in the fine print and they wouldn't have recieved less tips or anything. So we left and are returning our Groupon. Will never go there again unless the service changes.
(1)Lauren M.
I will never order from this place again! The delivery guy was so incredibly rude to me when he had difficulty getting into my building. How dumb are you when you can't understand the instructions that there is a 10 second delay for the door to open? After he finally delivered my order, he rudely barked that he wanted a tip. Ever the astounding intellectual giant, he failed to realize the tip had been paid upon ordering the food and was already included. I am a small girl and he caused me to feel threatened and uncomfortable. And get this, when I opened the bag, 2 of my items were in containers that had busted open and covered everything in the bag. I swear he must have thrown the bag on the ground and kicked it all the way down the hall. What a jerk! And when I called the restaurant to complain, they didn't even offer to refund the spilled items. Like I said before, I will NEVER order from this garbage restaurant again!
(1)Aphrodite L.
Good food and nice service. Not expensive.I like Lass so much.
(4)Vishal G.
I first had food here couple of years back when I finished my LA marathon and my cousin took us to this place . After my 26.2 miles run, I was very tired and hungry. But great service and delicious food did the magic and I felt much better after the lunch. One time I took our friends to this place who were visiting us from bay area. Bay area has some great Indian restaurant but our friends complimented that they never had so authentic food over there. Being from northern part of India, I had tasted some of the best tandoori chicken in the world and I would say the chicken served here is at par. last week, my wife and I went there for lunch and had Shrimp Masala and our favorite Tandoori chicken with Garlic naan. All dishes were excellent and server was very professional and courteous. He kept checking with us on time to time if we needed anything. After we finished the meal, the owner came to our table to make sure that everything was good and to get our feedback on the food and service. We told him they probably should add couple of more shrimp pieces in the dish. He took the feedback in a very positive and said thanks to us for that. This is what I like about this restaurant they they listen their customer and try to do their level best to keep them happy.
(5)Chris R.
This is the best Indian food in the City - hands down. Always hits the spot. Can't go wrong.
(5)Elena M.
I'm a huuge Indian food fan and I approve. Granted, I only got the chicken tikka masala and cheese naan, but both were really good. The chicken tikka masala was nicely spiced (I ordered it mild) and they give you a healthy serving with a reasonable price. Cheese naan and the mango lassi were both delicious (even though both are pretty hard to mess up). Overall, a great place to go for chicken tikka masala! Oh, and they often bring free dessert of rice pudding or coconut ice cream!
(4)Monica R.
Saag Panner is delicious. Just make sure to ask for the level of spice. It was a bit too spicy for me but I said "medium" when I should have asked for "not spicy". Fast, friendly staff.
(4)Shannon H.
Amazing food, amazing owners, and amazing service is what encouraged me to finally write a 5 star review again. I cant lie, i've always dreaded eating Indian food, especially authentic Indian food, because of the many stories about the consequences of eating this style of food lol. My fiance brought me here to enjoy some real Indian home cooking. Mind you; it took me 4 visits to write this review because I had to be sure that my belly was telling me nothing but good news about this food. The owners always come out to greet us and shake our hands. I appreciate the gratitude to build a relationships with your customers. The naan bread is to die for! I suggest garlic or the superb parmesean naan. I always order the chicken tika marsala and everytime I sit down to enjoy this dish I swear it gets better every single time. I always showed up Sunday afternoons for the $5.95 lunch special and you cannot beat that price when they give you a mountain of rice, salad, chilli and chicken for that price on a huge platter. The service is always nice and friendly but the visit I made this past sunday was a bit awkward with the new waiter they hired. My table felt rush because the guy came to our table at least 4x's and asked if we were ready to go? I mean he'll jump mid into our conversations to cut us off and ask if we're ready to go. I still give the place 5 stars overall but that guy needs to backoff a bit.
(5)D S.
This review is for their flyers. These people came onto...no...TRESPASSED onto our property down our driveway to the back of our house and left flyers on our back door at 8 pm. Don't eat or order from this place unless you wish to encourage this trespassing and littering on your property.
(1)chrissy c.
Delicious. I bought a groupon and it was worth every penny. I've been searching for a good Indian restaurant because L.A. is seriously lacking in the Indian department and East India Grill really hit the spot. I will most definitely be back.
(5)Geoff G.
I come here regular for lunch now and then. Like last Friday. The outdoor patio is busy and smells of naan. Service is friendly, familiar--they're good to regulars, manager says hello again. The best part of any lunch here is the never ending chai tea that always scalding and rich. 3 cups this time. Keep them coming. Fish in House yellow curry, medium spicy--makes me sweat. dear god. The spice is right. Very creamy. Dipped in the cold yogurt sauce side is karmic. Savor with chai tea. Take your choice of naan: garlic and basil for me. Burning hot from the oven. Perfect in all the aforementioned sauces. It's all about the sauce. They were giving out free ice cream. They like to do that. PIstachio--very creamy. Savor with chai.
(4)Madison B.
I've driven by East India Grill several times and always wanted to check it out. Finally after leaving Target one evening I stopped by on my way home. I ordered the Saag Aloo dinner. Okay, so the price is just a smidge steep but we have got to talk about how GINORMOUS the portions are. So yes, my vegetarian dish was about $12...but then when you realize I could literally eat off of it for four meals I feel a little better about the cost. I recently picked it up for lunch, same size portion and much cheaper cost, and ordered the Chana Masala. Don't get me wrong it was great, but I have a friend who makes this dish and hers is just so phenominal that no others compare! I probably won't order that again as a main dish since it's kind of one note. Funny enough, I always eat up their lentil side first so maybe next I'll order the lentils as a main dish. An added bonus about this place? They deliver to my apartment! Score!
(4)George P.
Back to my favorite lunch place, awesome garlic nun bread, even better lamb masala... Eating 3rd time this week here, don't forget mango ice cream
(5)Sam R.
great, lowkey spot. doesn't have a chain feeling to it. Solid place if you're looking for good Indian food.
(4)Jamezya P.
Hard to find parrking. Drive to alley behind the building and park at the under ground parking area. Big portions. Pricey for indian food. Very good
(4)Fe K.
fantastic! In addition to always being treated well and with the most attentive and quick service, the food is consistently excellent. High quality, deliciously flavored, spiced to order and filling servings, there is nothing to not like!
(4)Zeke M.
They treated my fiancé, and I, with such sincere kindness, and respect, we left feeling like royalty. Thanks guys! Namaste.
(5)M R.
I love the Makhani Tikka Masala curry with vegetables and paneer! I don't think I want to find out how much heavy cream is in here and will focus on the broccoli in there. I also think their Samosa and their Saag (spinach) paneer is really good. Normally I get a la carte with naan to go, but the service is friendly and great when you eat in also. Feels very warm and family run.
(4)Miriam H.
Soo their food was terrible, honestly the worst Indian I've ever had :( I feel so bad saying that but it's sincerely true. Service was good so I gave it two stars for that. They tried really hard but there is no way to mask bad food. I have no idea how you make Indian with no flavor. Their culture is built on spices and a huge flavor pallet--it did not exist here. If they have good reviews it's either from people who eat boxed mac and cheese on the daily or are complete amateurs with any kind of food requiring taste. Save your money for some place else.
(2)Jaden K.
If I lived within a 10 mile radius, I would eat here...every...single...day. The owner and staff are fantastically service oriented and attentive. The food tingles all my senses. Firstly, I am one of those who drinks my ice water like I just ran a marathon, so to have my glass consistently topped off (we're looking at never less than 50% empty) is a great customer service feat in itself. My friend's ice tea never dipped below half a glass either. The vegetarian meal consisted of the following: Samosa - nicely spiced w/ a contrasting sweet-tangy dipping sauce Tofu Makhani Tikka Masala - nice clean and fresh taste Tofu Sagwala - best pureed spinach curry ever Peshowari Naan - delightfully salty-sweet naan w/ nuts and raisins, it couples well w/ curry or just by itself Garlic Basil Naan - the standard naan, yet outstanding b/c they make all their naan in-house and is thick and chewy (very important for me) Rice Pudding - a perfect ending note Outside seating is deal for warmer weather. And parking is a small bitch.
(4)Ayrrion B.
This place never disappoints. I've been known to travel across town from downtown to pick up take-out . I can't say that I've had anything that I didn't like.
(4)Bobby C.
Great authentic food. The mussels in curry sauce is a must appetizer as is the pakora. Garlic naan is a must and get the smallest side of rice. Restaurant.com coupon available. Weak service but they mean well -- gave us free mango ice cream.
(4)Jackson E.
Extremely friendly staff. Went there for the first time last night with some friends who purchased a Groupon. As we walked in, one of the managers (maybe owner) greeted us and shook everybody's hand. The service was quick and efficient, and the food was awesome. The restaurant was small but had a nice outdoor patio. As we left, the same owner/manager thanked us for coming and shook our hands again on the way out.
(5)Haley W.
I LOVE the food here. I eat a lot of indian food and this is the best I have ever had. It is true that the guy server can be a little less than friendly. He doesn't really look you in the eye and isn't a very warm personality, but I don't care. I am here for the food. The woman is very nice though if you are lucky enough to get her instead. The Chicken Tikka Masala and the Saag Paneer are my two favorite things.
(5)Melissa I.
This is my favorite Indian restaurant! Their chicken tikka masala is the best I've ever tried. They have good service and a pretty big menu. We got the dinner special, which was about $40 for dinner for 2. They packed up our leftovers and both had lunch the next day. They also are pretty quick with deliveries when you call in an order. Great service and food means we will keep coming back!
(5)Julsey K.
I'm sitting here at this restaurant....we've been here for more than 45 minutes and so far only gotten our appetizer and the naan bread that we said we wanted with our meal. the table behind us got here 15 minutes ago and already have their meal.... WTF! I complained to the "manager" behind the counter and his excuse was that because of the coconut milk and the way it's cooked, it takes awhile. I ordered the chicken tikka masala....that's like the most common dish ordered!! Really??? well we finally got our food after waiting a hour.... my masala tasted like tomato soup. my boyfriend's meal wasn't bad but not good either. the food is bland. I asked for spicy and it didn't even have the slightest kick. When he complained to our waiter, he apologized several times....but that was about it. The place is tiny cramped and you can barely move around tables. I bought a Groupon to try out this place and I gotta say, it was a waste of money....we'll NEVER go back to this place again! TRUST the reviews with one star! This place is a total disappointment and gives Indian food a bad name! Oh...it has a Zagat rated sticker on their door....yeah...it's from 2002.

Love, Love, Love this place! My favorite Indian restaurant in Hollywood. The server and manager are always so nice and remember what my daughter and I order, they usually throw in free dessert for her also. The Bharta here is amazing and I have been trying to copy it for 2 years now.

Just had dinner here with my boyfriend. We are both new to Indian food so we had a ton of questions. We were in luck as it wasn't too busy for a Friday night, and we had our infant with us. We sat on the patio which was a nice atmosphere especially on this summer solstice! On top of this, Ayeessa was so incredibly helpful in explaining the menu, as well as helping us figure out what we'd like best! (Not to mention she was genuinely kind && caring towards our daughter.) We ended up ordering the chicken tikka marsala and the tandoori medley, along with the most delicious garlic naan. We could not wait for our food, and when it arrived we dove right in, eating with our hands.. what a treat! The chicken tikka marsala (medium heat) was sooo yummy! The tandoori medley was good, however, I feel like I will probably try something different next time around. The plain naan was good, but after trying the garlic naan, the plain just could not compare.. DEFINITELY recommend the garlic! All in all, we had a fantastic experience, the best part being the service we received by the lovely Ayeessa (I hope I'm spelling that correctly)!! She even brought us a small serving of pistachio ice cream at the end of the meal! We will definitely be back, tikka marsala && garlic naan a mus!!

My Boyfriend and I went there about 6pm. It's street parking so that's a bit hard to find around that time, since permit parking starts at 6pm! They offer Valet service but I'm not sure of the price. There was indoor and outdoor seating, we opt for indoor because of the cold weather. We ordered Garlic Naan, Saag Paneer, chicken Marsala, and rice. It was good, but the price was not worth it. The service was a little slow even though there were only 3 tables being taken up. In conclusion I will not be back, if I'm paying this kind of price I expect the food to taste good and fresh. This was not the case here.

Please note this review only pertains to customer service, not a dining experience. I purchased an Amazon Local deal for this business. I did not use the voucher prior to expiration of the special deal. So I called simply to confirm with the restaurant something that was written on the voucher: that you don't lose the money you put towards the voucher -- you can use that to dine in the restaurant. The man who answered the phone listened to my question, asked me to hold, then came back and said that I could only apply the money I spent on the voucher towards dinner but we had to come at 4pm. I explained that I have a family, that we will certainly exceed the money I spent on the voucher for any meal, even lunch. He repeated, if you come at 4pm today, you can apply the unused portion. Then I explained that that was an inconvenient hour for us, because my 1 year old as an early bedtime. We can come for a late lunch, however. Would that work? He hung up on me.

Not bad, though be prepared to pay handsomely for okay food. We ended up paying around $40 for dinner for two, and we don't even drink. Husband had the half tandoori chicken combo, and I had the chicken saagwala combo. They come with rice, dal makhni and raita. NO BREAD INCLUDED. Parantha and tandoori naan added another $5 or $6 to our bill. Plus point however: the portions are enormous.

BEST Indian food spot I've been to in years!! Lamb was ridiculously tender, currie was thick & seasoned to perfection & they have a nice variety of tasty naan. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that I calculated my bill after I left & realized that they overcharged me to make up for the Restaurant.com coupon I was using (not cool!). Normally, I would never come back to this place in my life, but man, that just goes to show how good their food really is.... I went back 4 days later & didn't even complain about the money! lol

We went to this delightful little restaurant with a Groupon. Will definitely be back -Groupon or not. They had the best Malai Kofta I have had in Los Angeles and I order that dish a lot. Great, friendly service and it was nice dining on the patio for lunch.
(5)Diana K.
Went at 5pm for dinner and we were the only couple in the entire restaurant. The server was very nice but I would not come back here. The food is average and it's really overpriced. Ordered two chicken tikka masala dinners and had an order of naan. I had a groupon for $24. And our TOTAL bill was $37. Huh? How did that happen. We paid the difference and vowed never to return. Felt ripped off.

I just wanted to update to give it 5 stars. I love this place, I love their food, I love their service and I love their prices. Outdoor seating is pretty fantastic too. Since my first review three years ago, I have added Indian food to my list of favorite cuisines and have been to several Indian restaurants in LA. East India Grill is still my favorite place to head to for some quality food in the perfect setting!

East India Grill held such promise: I love Indian food, and my boyfriend had eaten at it previously with positive reviews. Sounds like an automatic four- or five-star review, right? Wrong. Unfortunately, this place had a few issues hindering it, but there was one major factor going that ultimately drives my review down to one measly star: Sugar. And apparently the night we ate there, there was lots of it to go around. We arrived before the rush hour on a Saturday evening. While the staff was friendly and accommodating, we were sat at the one table that was dirty and had yet to be cleaned. The waiter apologetically cleaned the table and took our drink and food orders shortly thereafter. The water was the best item we ordered that night. The tomato soup and salad arrived, and while the former tasted like Campbell's, the latter was drizzled in a very sweet dressing. At first it seemed like a vinaigrette that had too much sugar that would balance out with the greens, but after awhile it became overpowering. Just before I acclimated to the sugary taste, the waitress was ready to take our plates, despite having not finished either item. When the main course arrived, we were stoked to get our two favorite dishes: shrimp korma and saag paneer, each ordered mild. The food was hot, looked fresh, and seemed to be making up for the slightly mediocre start. However, upon digging in to each item, my boyfriend and I were shocked to discover that both the saag paneer and shrimp korma were sickening sweet. Not like, "oh, hey, check out that sweet yet spicy kick at the end," or, "wow, this has such robust, exotic flavor." No. This was dessert sweet. Like someone mixed crème brûlée into each of our dishes. It was truly disgusting. We both tried to add the accompanying sauces and spices, or pairing the paneer or korma with garlic naan, but the sugary sweetness was just too intense. It overpowered everything. Throughout dinner we tried to rationalize that perhaps it was our palettes' faults, but no, readers, that's bull--no Indian food, no matter how mild I've ordered it or where I've eaten it--has ever tasted like it contained ten lumps of sugar per bite. By the end of the meal, I'm sure any trained medical professional could have diagnosed us with acute cases of hyperglycemia.

Food: Had a lotta Indian food nearby, but this was easily the worst. Chicken tikka was like campbell's tomato soup and canned chicken breast. Service: Place was packed (no idea why), but waited twice as long as anyone else to get served--About 40 minutes. Forgot my roti. This place gets an F.

Incredibly friendly staff, clean presentation and delicious food. They have THE BEST naan bread.. A great neighborhood gem!
(5)Stacey B.
Now let me first say, I never dine inside this restaurant - I only have it delivered. I live pretty close and It's always at my home within 20-30 minutes, piping hot and crazy delish. (And the service is always very friendly over the phone.) I've sampled all of the other indian joints in my neighborhood & East India Grill is consistently the best. My favorites: Chicken Mahkani. Yummy goodness! Sagwala - I get it plain. Just tons of creamy & spicy spinach. Korma - velvety heaven. And of course the naan. Made to perfection - even in its delivery state. Go there. Now. Or at least order some take-out!

Since moving to LA over a year ago, I have yet to find a really great "go to" Indian restaurant. Chicago is rife with them: from the dumpy little buffet lunch spots that serve up no-frills homestyle fare to the high-end romantic spots along Devon Ave. I thought East India would become my go-to spot since it's near my apartment and has an appealing outdoor patio. It didn't hurt that they are often listed with coupons at restaurant.com . I wish I hadn't come away so disappointed. I may be able to shrug off the disinterested, surly waiters if the food really stood out, but it did no such thing. Consistency seems to be their biggest problem. The starter salad was no great shakes but alright: iceberg lettuce, chick-peas, tomatoes and a light dressing. Their naan was a little better than some others I've had, but nothing to write home about. The little chucks of ground chicken kebab were alright as well. The main courses I tried, one lamb and one chicken, were just not that good unfortunately. Both dishes were ordered "medium" spicy but were rather just sweet (almost sugary) and lacking any spice at all. The chicken in particular seemed like it was just floating in Campbell's cream of tomato soup. The yellow curry (korma) with the lamb was simply boring. The waiters had all bust disappeared, and any feigning interest they had in my meal had evaporated. I thought early on that I would ignore the restaurant.com coupon and save it for another occasion - surely this would be a place where I would return - but in the end I decided to rid myself of the coupon and go back to researching Indian cuisine in LA.

Came here for a quick bite, and enjoyed the food. The parmesan naan was great, as were the chicken wings. The sauce on the wings looked more like think spaghetti sauce, and it was slightly sweet but with a nice spicy kick. The servers were very attentive, and by attentive, I mean they stood off to the side and stared at us while we ate. That was slightly awkward, but maybe it's a cultural thing. Overall we were happy with the food and the experience.
(4)O R.
The best Indian food I have ever tasted. Every dish is great. I personally love the aloo matar.
(5)John M.
Best Indian Restaurant in LA for the price. I have not had a better Chicken Tikka Masala in the city. I try others and they for come close. Consistent and good service. They also deliver which I like. Never had a bad meal here
(5)Amanda C.
Amazing food and service :) I ordered the mixed veggie vindaloo dinner and a samosa appetizer. Delicious!! The waitress and manager checked on us often and even gave us mango ice cream on the house at the end of our meal. The ambiance is also very fun and the Indian music videos they have playing are great to watch while you wait for your food. This is my second time eating here and I expect that I will keep coming many more times in the future!
(5)Fabian R.
I have gone here twice for lunch and I am happy I gave it a try, the food has very good flavor without being overwhelmed with spiciness. The service is great from everyone working here. Good price value for the quality of food. Best tasting Naan. Freshly made to order

I've been coming here for the past 1 1/2 years with the GF and it became our usual Friday night spots. We love Indian food and we've been through a countless number of Indian restaurants and for some reason we always find ourselves coming back here. Maybe it's the cheese naan thats just addicting or their creamy curry's. Our usual order are 2 cheese naan; one before our meal and one during. They give these 2 complimentary sauces: a green one and a red one which I don't know what kind of sauce they are but as the general rule of thumb goes, red is spicier than the green. The cheese naan is freshly made so when you get it, its piping hot and the cheese is still stringy and gooey. As for curries, we order the cheese yellow curry. The curry is silky and creamy while the cheese comes in block form that melts in your mouth. The other curry is the chicken makhani tikka masala which is die to for. The extra heavy cream in the sauce really gives the curry some volume and when you dip your naan in it, you will know that this restaurant knows what they're doing. You can order a side of saffron rice which usually can feed 2-3 people. At the end of your meal, you don't have to order desserts since they give you a complimentary one. The desserts vary depending on the day you go but it's either a bowl of rice pudding, pistachio ice cream or mango ice cream. The desserts are good sweet treat after your spicy meal! I love coming here because it genuinely feels like a Indian restaurant. This family owned establishment will make your other Indian food experiences something to forget!

East India Grill has recently taken its place as my favorite Indian restaurant in L.A. Each time I come here, I am greeted warmly and directed to a table inside their wonderfully aromatic restaurant. They have an amazing menu that is also pretty customizable (in terms of the curry, at least). Not only is the menu here pretty extensive, but every single thing I've tried has been phenomenal! My favorites here are the saag paneer and chicken tikka masala. The saag paneer has the perfect consistency -- it is creamy with the right amount of density and isn't at all runny. The chicken tikka masala is always a flavorful delight. My boyfriend recently tried the lamb korma and that was also delicious! The lamb was so fragrant and expertly cookd that you could smell it even underneath all that curry! I love their lunch specials! It is available from 12PM to 3 PM and appetizers start at $4.50. Or you could choose a curry and customize it with your choice of meats or homemade paneer cheese, and it comes with rice, vegetables, salad, and raita. They give you a very generous portion for only $6.95! Service is always friendly and attentive, and while your food is being prepared, you can watch them make your naan fresh!

Best Indian food in LA hands down! The staff is lovely, everything on the menu is spectacular!
(5)Heather M.
I finally got around to getting take out from here (Crown of India has become my go to). The chicken tikka masala was good. The saag paneer was decent, but I have come to like the thicker, spicier saag from Crown of India. The vegetable korma sauce was good, but the vegetables were not. It seemed to be mostly carrots and broccoli stems which I don't think are the best choices for a korma sauce (or for any dish, for that matter). But my main issue was that they were hardly cooked and very crunchy.

Its hard to find really good indian food. This place has great food for very low prices. The lunch specials are a steal. DISCLAIMER: Neither my fiancee or I are Indian so I'm not going to try and testify to the authenticity. PROS: Great dal and masala; really well priced; the service is pretty good- not super fast, but they are super friendly. CONS: parking is tough on the street. There are a few spots behind the restaurant. TIPS: If you like spicy food, this is a great place. When we asked for our dishes to be spicy, we were posed with the question of American spicy or Indian spicy. I chose American out of fear given a number of Indian friends who have nearly killed me with properly spiced foods. It was great. My fiancee, who loves spicy food and comes from Thailand, ordered Indian spicy- it was delicious but difficult for her to eat. Going mild cuts on flavor, but the cook has a great touch!
(5)Elle S.
The food is good and the service is very nice, even though it is not the absolute fastest. I suggest getting the dinner combo, which comes with the soup to tide you over until the entrees are ready! The servers have always been super friendly. I like the food a lot and my bf is obsessed! They give you a free tiny dessert sometimes when they bring the bill which is sweet. Try the green curry!

Ordered takeout. Had saag paneer and malai kofta. They gave plenty of rice, too. Rice was excellent...as was the rest of the dinner. It's replaced Flavor of India, for me. I'll definitely go back.

An endless parade of delicious entrees.

Saturday 740 pm. Party of 3. We didn't get a very good waiter to take our orders. He was not smiling, he was rushing with our orders, and several times was looking elsewhere while answering our questions about the menu and while asking us if we wanted to add this or that. We observed he was like that with other customers, too. It doesn't matter if it's a busy night. You ought to give customers due attention. While enjoying our main course, he did come by and ask how everything was, though, just as other staff did. For that, one star. Lamb chili and fish tikka masala were outstanding. Mango lassi was tasteful. But I've had better in Pasadena. Mango ribs, one of the specialties, was a tad overcooked so not soft & not succulent. Green salad and tomato soup that came with dinner entrees were nothing out of the ordinary. For these, 2.5 stars. Parking is hit & miss. There's metered, there's residential street with day&time allowances, and apparently there's also an underground free parking which we found out about too late. We did see one while driving around at the back alley but there was a sign that said "No Parking. Private Property". For that 2 stars.
(3)Eddie A.
Had the chicken tikka massala lunch special with garlic naan. It was good and the portion seemed good enough to me for a lunch special. I was definitely full. The staff was friendly and helpful. There were 2 of us eating and we each had the Groupon Now and I was a little concerned that they wouldn't let us both use it despite the fact that it said 1 per person and not 1 per table but we were able to use both towards our bill.

I went to East India Grill on 7/16 after getting a pretty sweet Restaurant.com deal with my friend. We each ordered curry dinners (chicken tikka masala and coconut), along with an order of poori and naan, with sweet lassi to drink. I was so disappointed. The curries tasted like they came out of the deep freeze to prepare our orders; the sauces did not taste fresh, and the chicken was some texture that I've never experienced before with chicken. And I can't forget the paltry bagged salads with Italian dressing we got with our dinners! The poori was weirdly shiny, which was weird because I've never seen poori look quite like that, but the naan and sweet lassis were great (we ended up getting two of them). The staff was attentive...until we got our dinners. Once we ate and were clearly waiting for one of the three people who'd been to our table to reappear, we had to continue to wait until someone finally came and asked us if we'd like the check. Throughout the dinner, someone came multiple times to reach over and refresh condiments and clear the albeit small table, which honestly can wait while you actually have someone there eating. Besides, the table should be set with what we'd need before we ever arrive. I gave it two East India Grill two stars because the food was edible (as in, I was able to eat it and not get sick) and because the service was passable. But there's no way I'll be returning. I'm just happy we didn't have to pay the $54 it would've been if we didn't have the deal.

Upon rolling in yesterday I wasn't really feeling the Indian vibe but as soon as the food arrived I was feeling much more positive. Though the dishes seemed small the many items ordered were all very good. My favorite was the yellow chicken curry, sorry I didn't order nor looked at the menu other than that it was yellow curry and it was sweet but mildly spicy with chicken. Cathy described it as tasting like butter. I didn't have the same experience but I liked the creaminess. I liked the Cilantro naan and the garlic naan. I have to learn how to make naan somewhere. We had the lamb vidaloo and chicken tandori and a variety of other curries. All good stuff.
(4)Elle S.
Overpriced and often flavorless food. How have they managed to be there so long?
(2)A. J.
When I arrived I was informed that my Saveology voucher could be used for food only, not beverages. Hmmm . . . . I dined outside, adjacent to the sausage restaurant. The Calamari app was way over cooked and chewy and tasteless. Curried Mussels appetizer was swimming in sauce. Delicious--should've gotten naan! I saved the sauce and used it on the rice that came with my dinner though. It should be an option for one of their dinner sauces but I was told it is only available on this app. Lamb in medium cocoanut curry sauce was very good. Could have had more of a cocoanut flavor though. Lentil dish that came with the dinner was quite flavorful. Not crazy for the yogurt side. Brought home lots for another meal, but I don't think I'll return, ESPECIALLY because when the bill arrived there was an unknown charge, and when I questioned it I was told that it was the gratuity automatically added because of the voucher. How many unwittingly leave additional tips? I don't like these shady practices, and have not returned to the Catalina Jazz Club for a similar practice.

I've always wanted to try this place and wondered when I would get the opportunity. well, it came, thanks to dealfind. my fiance and i went last night. food: i was incredibly surprised with the dinner...there was so much food! and they were all very tasty. i think if you order the entree, the portion will be smaller. but they are also served dinner style, with soup/salad, rice, lentils and yogurt. i had tandoori chicken, my fiance had some chicken breast thing and we ordered a whole fish and garlic naan. the chicken and fish had the right amount of spices. the chicken was very tender...but the fish...eh...well, im picky when it comes to fish anyway. as far as i was concerned, it satisfied my appetite. service: it wasn't fast nor was it slow...it was just about right. honestly, i would rather them take a little extra time in cooking my food. That way, I know it's slightly fresh and not sitting under a heating plant or something. our server was very kind and attentive. she asked me about my hair!?!?! i thought that was funny. price: it's about right. i think if you order the dinner style or prix fix, you would spend roughly $40 (not including tax and tip). typical in restaurants. The only thing i didnt like was the 2-seater table...it was actually small. i felt like we were sitting at the kids section of the restaurant. All in all, we had a good experience. And they even gave us complimentary dessert! when restaurants do things like that, it makes me more generous. i hope she enjoys her tip! :)

I came to this place because my friend (who is Indian if that gives her more credibility) says it's the best Indian food she has had in Los Angeles. It's a smaller restaurant with romantic outdoor seating. The service is a little slow but the waiters are nice. Now getting to the food - it was very good! We got some appetizers that I've never tried before. The onion pakora is basically like onion rings but more lightly fried and with some spice. I think they may be the best "onion rings" I've ever had. We also got the seekh kabob which was delicious too. It's not really chicken on a kabob as you would normally think of...but it's cut up chicken that was probably cooked like a kabob but then presented in a dish minus the stick. The meat had a fresh, light taste. We got the garlic naan which was nice, fluffy and not overly garlic-ly. Finally, the chicken tikka masala doesn't stand out as the best I've ever had. Nicely spiced, but there was a little aftertaste that I'm not used to from other Indian restaurants I've eaten at. Perhaps this makes it more authentic? It wasn't bad, just something I wasn't used to.
(4)CT T.
Did not like the curry here AT ALL. It was bland, watery, and not spicy whatsoever. We ate it up ONLY because we were starving, but man, was I ever disappointed at the Indians at this joint... or should I say the Mexicans in the kitchen. (Sorry to say but you know it's true!) The only plus is the fact that they deliver to my pad. Other than that, if you are a true connoisseur of Indian, skip this place.
(1)Abbi F.
OK, so I've done a lot of living...and I'm not sure if I can count on making it to heaven, but at the very least I have TASTED heaven!!! This place is phenomenal. Hands-down the BEST Indian food I've been privileged to taste thus far. Beyond that, it's some the best food (speaking in general terms across all genres) that I've had the pleasure to consume. I mean, if I were in the unfortunate position of needing to choose my last meal, the chicken tikka massala & Parmesan naan from this particular restaurant would be my meal of choice...it's THAT good!!! The service is always amazing...they remember me every time, and even remember the dishes I love best!

I have been an East India Grill customer for the past three years and have enjoyed my dining experience with them every time. I had recently purchased a restaurant.com coupon, hoping that I could enjoy the same delicious food with others last night. After the poor, awful experience, I do not believe I will select this location ever for Indian food in the Miracle Mile area. Shortly after ordering our food, the hostess for the night comes to our table to inform us that we are $2 short of meeting the minimum for the night. Once we had purchased a beverage, she comes once again to inform us that we are 25 cents short. While I can understand that meeting the minimum for the coupon to be applied is worth knowing... 25 cents at that point is not something that I would inform guests about especially in a unforgiving manner. We are the customers coming for your dining experience. Please at least have the decency to treat us like guests rather than indecent human beings that always need to pay up. Strike 1. When our samosas had arrived, I thought that the food would overrule the awkward customer service incident we had at first. I was wrong. The samosas were very hard in terms of their exterior (to the point where when my boyfriend had hit his fork on the shell, it would bounce right back) and tasted like baby food puree in terms of their interior. It literally felt like at this point East India Grill did not care about their customer's dining experience and was completely fine in serving ill-tasting Indian food. Strike 2. The Makhani Tikka Masala was not the buttery, creamy taste that I had anticipated. It was overall flat and tasted like tomato sauce. The Tandoori Chicken was too salty for eating and at this point. The Garlic Naan was probably the only decent thing from the night. I'm not saying that I or my boyfriend have very picky taste buds when it comes to dining out. But we also know how to distinguish between a well-cooked dish and one that was put together without much thought and care. We both walked out that night agreeing that this was the worst dining experience from the quality of service to the food. It was appalling to see our waitress and hostess ask if we enjoyed ourselves because I'm sure they clearly knew something was wrong every time we came over and saw that we had not even finished a fraction of our dishes and continued to not do anything to make up for it. East India Grill, I'm sorry, but this is not the kind of service that I came back for and while I may not come often... I know that you will no longer be the place I recommend to friends, family or acquaintances within the Miracle Mile area like I had in the past.
(1)Jeremy B.
This place blew my mind!!! Their naans were delicious, especially the shrimp naan. The cheese and potato naan are delicious as well. As for the entree I had the Vindaloo Curry Shrimp Entree, and again - AMAZING! If you like Indian and spicy foods, this is definitely a place you should try. Oh and their veggie samosas are great too.

I dropped by for lunch with a friend a couple of days ago. I had seen the restaurant several times on my way to Target further north on La Brea, so when I saw the Groupon offer a couple of weeks ago, I decided to get it and finally give East India Grill a try. Im really glad I did. :) First off, the staff is really accomodating and their service is stellar. I have honestly never been to any other restaurant where I got treated so nicely. My friend has food allergies and they were really nice when she asked if she could have plain yogurt instead of the traditional yogurt and cucumber dip that comes with the dinner meal. Second, the food was absolutely delicious. My friend has travelled to India several times and she said the food tasted very authentic. We tried the Spicy Lamb Vindaloo and the Lamb Tikka plates with the lentils and the rice. We also ordered the garlic naan and each of us had a mango lassi (a yogurt based almost smoothie like drink. really tasty :) ) The food was so delicious. The orders were pretty big, I even had enough left over for dinner. I was extremely satisfied with the taste of the food, the excellent service and the price. Im looking forward to coming back with my sister. :)

I have eaten at this place a few times no and every time it's the same thing; awesome food. Now, I don't give such high praise to Indian restaurants very easily but, this place is great. I plan on visiting there often. Just some quick tips. When you go there, there is a alley in the back of the restaurant that has a few extra parking spots; however, be careful, the alley has huge pot holes. Also, if all that is full, there is usually street parking in the neighborhoods around the restaurants. All in all... 4 stars.
(4)Stacy M.
I am very happy with East Indian Grill on every level. We found quick and easy arking on the street on a Friday night. The atmosphere is laid back, but not too casual. The staff did not under or overestimate the spiciness of the food; and they are very friendly. We did the prix fixe dinner and with one (large!) beer it came out to about $50 for two, but there was enough left over to have a second meal, easily. The samosas and the spinach were really good and the tikka masala was quite tasty. The beer was yum too. The Naan was awesome and they give you a decent portion. Am definitely going back. Soon.
(4)jeff l.
Not such a good thing when my favorite things were the bread and the water! Ordered the chicken tika masala which tasted like rubber with ragu on top of it. The lamb korma was chewy, the sauce was decent though. To top it off the prices were pretty high, dont think I will be back
(2)anna k.
East India Grill is a great go-to place. As with most Indian restaurants, there are many vegetarian options. My friend and I went family style on Vegetable Korma and Aloo Ghobi. Both were really flavorful. The cilantro naan is delicious; I prefer it to their garlic naan, which I thought left something to be desired. We also had an eggplant dish (but I forgot what it was called) which was really flavorful, and not too oily, which I usually find eggplant dishes to be. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It's in a good location. It's not my absolute favorite Indian restaurant, but it is pretty darn good.
(4)Vivek K.
I have been here at least 5-6 times. I am very peculiar about Indian food and this place just worth every penny. Great staff and food seems always fresh. This has become my Favorite place to eat Indian food.
(5)David C.
Food was the most bland i think i have ever eaten. Chicken Tika was chicken in tomato sauce. Waitress redeemed my groupon, confirmed redemption and then handed me the phone and asked me to show her the groupon again. When i explained that she had just redeemed it she just kept asking to see it again, over and over. I ate here years ago, and it was good, but seriously just five up some chicken in tomato sauce and you'll have their chicken tika.

Before I moved out of the neighborhood recently, the East India Grill was one of my favorite restaurant in the area and I still go here for a nice meal when I'm back in town. Their food is really flavorful and delicious, I like that it is possible to sit in the covered outdoors part of the restaurant when the weather allows to do so (temperature-wise). The Naan is really good. My typical order also has Chicken Tikka Marsala, Samosa, Raita and if someone joins I also order Chicken Tikka which comes on a hot stone. Prices are very reasonable, the E.I.G. also participates in Restaurant.com vouchers though with beverages excluded, minimum dine and a mandatory 18% tip I'm not sure it is really a good deal. Their delivery... let's say I had a couple issues. Most of them were about forgetting things I ordered and that really ruins the meal for me. When I expect a delivery and after 45 Minutes the guy comes and half of your order is missing, that is a huge let down. Happened at least three times. The other time the food was cold as an ice cube, arriving about 1:15h after ordering and had probably collected more miles than me on a transcon flight. Not cool! Unfortunately our House did not have a garage and if you don't want to lose your parking space in this area you better keep your 4 wheels in there after 7p. So you have to rely on delivery - or walk. I like the quality of the food, the pricing and the restaurant itself for dine in. Would have given them 5 Stars but the delivery issues cost them a full star, would we have half then I would have taken 1.5 for this. Still you wont be disappointed! Enjoy! Cheers -S

Ate lunch here on a Sunday. Ordered the chicken vindaloo and naan. Soo yummy.

I've been searching for a decent Indian restaurant and tried this place on a Groupon. My husband and I sat in the outdoor patio area and really liked the ambiance. What I didn't like is the sticky table. I had to ask the waiter to wipe it down. Here is what we ordered: tandoor chicken-chicken was moist and flavorful. yellow curry with shrimp-sweet and mildly spicy naan-fresh dessert-compliementary! I'm not sure exactly what it was...some kind of rice pudding with almonds on top. I thought it was okay. My husband devoured it. The food was good. The service was okay. Would I visit again...hmmm I may just try another place. Not wowed...but not disappointed. Just ..ok

This place has earned a distinctive honor, my first ever one star review. I am a huge fan of Indian food, and would normally order in from Crown of India, but I thought I'd try someplace new. Woefully regretting that decision. Soo.. enough general complaining, straight to the details: Ordered for delivery, which took a bit over an hour, but no objection there... if the food was great. The delivery fellow was rather surly. I'm a generous tipper, and had exact cash plus said generous tip ready for him at the door. Not so much as a smile or acknowledgment of any kind, much less a "thanks" or "have a good night". Delivery rating: 2 stars for getting the order correct and it being hot on delivery. No stars for speediness or friendliness. Garlic Basil Naan: Eh. Not special, kind of flat, and I could see what looked like bits of garlic (not fresh) and a dusting of some sort of dried herb. However, the flavors didn't really come across. I didn't even finish it, and this is normally a favorite of mine. Paratha Naan: Both heavy and undercooked, and holey and falling apart at the same time. The flavor was a bit off too. I had a few bits scooped with korma sauce or raita to see if they were better combined. Nope, also threw most of this out. Raita: So so.. probably the best of these dismal dishes, but that's not saying much. No fresh herbiness, just yogurt and shredded cucumber and carrot. Navratan Korma: This was really disappointing. I love korma. I could be called a kormaholic even, but this was not like any korma I have known and loved. It was the right color, but had none of the rich nuttiness or fresh made texture. None of the freshness or complexity of flavor. The vegetables were way overcooked, and I had to hunt for the 4 tiny cubes of paneer. Cucumber salad: I don't even know what to say about this. I had less than a bite, before realizing this was not what I had in mind. It is a finely chopped cucumber, lettuce and maybe onion? The whole thing was wilty, overchopped and had the softness of having been made at the start of the day and been sitting. Just for the record, softness is not a positive attribute in ANY salad. And the dressing wasn't a lovely vinegar with herbs, but rather what smelled and tasted like the really cheap bottled italian dressing. Worst dish of them all, congratulations. Perhaps I didn't get a taste of their best dishes, but with that introduction, there will be no second date.

Mmm, Indian food. The staff is friendly, attentive, and fast! Have been there with plenty of time to enjoy the meal and also in a hurry -- today I was out within an hour! The food is delicious and flavorful and the selections of naan is fantastic. If you're looking for great Indian food at a decent price, check it out; you won't regret it!
(5)Jessica D.
This place is amazing!! You will not be dissapointed. You get a lot here for your money... I always have left overs for at least one full meal I can enjoy the next day. The only downfall is when I ordered delivery for the lunch special, they charged me for the full order. I wasnt aware you had to specify that you want the lunch portion because usually at restaurants they will ask you. I guess that is partly my fault, but I was still kind of annoyed.
(4)D H.
I didn't care too much for this place over others. The workers aren't as polite as other places nearby, and the food isn't as good as Crown of India, or better yet Natraj down in Long Beach. But it is an interesting place, the Naan is pretty decent.
(3)Scott C.
Very good. We've been doing take-out after being at The bar next door, and it's great. Highly recommend.
(4)Mrouki M.
Great service to start with All the servers rusged to our table as soon as they saw us coming Manager came personally to help us with tge menu and to introduce homself to us Great chicamassala And at tge end they gave us a reduction because it was our first time I would defenetly recommend this place
(5)Kasie F.
I eat here often since I work nearby. The staff are ALWAYS wonderful. My favorite dish is the chicken tikka masala. I would also recommend the garlic naan. I would recommend this restaurant any day!
(4)Nick J.
One of the worst services ever! After not honoring our groupon, the service quality dropped. We waited for our orders to be taken, waited for food, and waited for the bill, and when I say waited, I mean..WAITED. We spent more time waiting, than eating. Service should have been better considering they weren't busy. The food was just okay, but not at all worth the wait time. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, and I'll never return.
(1)M C.
Best Indian food and excellent service! I've came to East India Grill many times with and without a Groupon and every time I've dinned here the food is delicious and the service is beyond outstanding! My favorite items on the menu are the garlic basil naan, the chicken tikka masala and saffron rice and the prices are very reasonable. If you enjoy Indian food or have been meaning to try it then this is the place for you. Please check it out and review, let's help keep small businesses open. HAPPY EATING!!!

I do not understand why this place has so many positive reviews. I grew up in an Indian neighborhood in Chicago, so I know really good Indian food when I taste it and this is NOT it. The only reason I ate here was because of a Restaurant.com gift certificate I got a year ago. I needed to use it and if you read the fine print (which we failed to do) it says you need to pay the balance in cash. I use a lot of these certificates and I can tell you this is not the norm. We sat on their appealing outdoor patio and settled into the menu despite the lackluster service. After all, I can forgive aloofness if the food is on point. We went with the prix fixe dinner for $18.95 a person. To start off with the salad was very boring. Shredded iceberg lettuce, a few slices of tomato and some chickpeas did not cut it. The nan was a saving grace. It had a lot of flavor and the accompanying Seek Kabab was the perfect compliment. Unfortunately, that's the extent of my satisfaction with our meal. The sauces had no kick and tasted like tomato soup out of a can. There was something oddly consistent about the sauces as if they were not made from scratch. I've had more convincing homemade Indian from Trader Joe's. We asked for medium spicy and I wouldn't even say that this was mild. They were sweet, like dessert level sweet. WTF? The chicken in the Tikka Massala had a weird texture to it. The side dishes were so bland and boring. The Korma was also super bland. I really wanted to like this place, but sadly I won't be giving them a second chance. I hope you guys don't make the mistake of coming here. There's better Indian food to be found in LA--will you let me know when you find it?
(2)Sarah M.
I don't usually write reviews, but my husband and I are big fans of E. India Grill. They are in our neighborhood, so they are a "go to" for delivery and pick up on nights when we don't want to cook. Our usual order includes their Chicken Masala and Aloo Matar, which are both excellent. Note that you have to order the rice separately... we've forgotten on a few occasions and they've always been kind enough to call and make sure we get what we want. Overall, the food is great and the restaurant is exactly what you would want from a neighborhood "go to". Look no further...
(5)Bruce K.
I haven't been inside an Indian restaurant since 1972, when my cousins ordered everything extra hot. One bite and my tastebuds were done for the next two days, not to mention I couldn't breathe, drank about twenty-three glasses of water, and felt like I was going to die. But today, a friend wanted to eat at East India Grill and I finally agreed to give it another shot, careful to order "mild." I had the tandoori chicken tikka which comes with rice and something white and something green in bowls, neither of which were to my liking. The chicken was a little bland, but a little salt perked it right up. We ordered one of the bread things and it was pretty good and made the chicken a little more interesting. As to the brilliance of the cooking, I have no idea - I simply have nothing to compare to. I tasted a little of my friend's curry with vegetables and it made me want to vomit on the ground - so apparently curry is not my thing. In fact, I don't think Indian food is my thing, so I think I shall be perfectly happy to never eat it again. The End.
(3)Rob W.
Not horrible, but on multiple visits the naan came out well after the entree. Service is just okay. The saag paneer was tasty.
(2)Jamie B.
My experience at East India Grill was not impressive. I stopped in for lunch with friends and ordered a dish similar to paneer makhni, which the chefs translated to plain paneer cubes dropped in what tasted like Campbell's tomato soup straight from the can. The decor of the restaurant was clean, modern, and comfortable. Our waiter was ditsy, but that doesn't mean that all of the serving staff is bad and perhaps things have shaped up since my visit. Regardless, I will not waste my time with a return to find out.
(2)Beth A.
I went here for lunch, and the food was amazing. We had the lunch specials, which are a great deal. The service was adequate and nothing but, which is why I'm not giving it 5 stars. But go for the food, great covered patio, and interesting beer selection!

After painting a bridge with fellow yelpers, I was feeling feisty AND lazy, so I stopped in at Rocket for some gory culty movies. Magical coupons appeared on the counter for indian food just up the street--mm, really appealed to the feisty and lazy in me! They have free parking in a lot behind the building in the alley. I REALLY recommend grabbing that coupon from the counter of Rocket if you plan to go. With the coupon, a full dinner with beverages, apps, salad, entrees and dessert for 2 came to $30! MAGIC! Nonstop (but not irritating) service, perfect spice balance, best samosas I've had in years. We both had enough leftovers for the next day.. now, for some Dust Devils..

This is one of many of my neighborhood Indian eateries but it's one of the best. We could go to India's Oven or Anarkali (both which have their high points), but it's at East India where we are regulars. The food is solidly tasty. Notably the tikka masala and the vindaloo. The naan, and it's many variations here, is always warm and soft with lightly crispy bubbles. Maybe it's because we come here every couple of months but we always get GREAT service. From the host to the waiter to the kitchen staff waving us hello and goodbye. They always ask how hot we want the curry, even though they know I like it spicy. Parking is an issue as it's in the middle of the block on La Brea, but it's not too far of a walk from Oakwood where you can park without a permit. The outdoor seating is just enough "outdoor" for ambiance without the intrusion of street traffic.
(4)David F.
Simply a great place for a curry filled lunch! I love how this place does their lunch specials: you choose the protein and the type of curry you want. This leaves you with endless options! I ordered the tofu and masala curry which was a great combo. For 9 bucks I had an absolute feast that I had no chance of finishing. My plate was filled with beautiful fluffy basamati, curry, salad(the weak point of the meal) and an extra curry of peas and carrots. This also came with 2 papadam and chutney! Pair that with a beer(of which they have several Indian options) and you're set for the day!

This is a small restaurant that is pretty good overall. I organized a large dinner event (8 people) here and the restaurant was quite accommodating. Even though the waitstaff seemed a little annoyed at having to deal with so many people at one table, they tried their best. They made suggestions as to what we should order as a table and ended up giving (and charging) us for way too much food. For example, there was a ridiculous amount of rice left at the end, and I went with a bunch of Asian American folks. We know how to each rice. East India Grill overloaded us with food and were happy to charge us for it. The manager was nice enough to give us complimentary mango ice cream for the table at the end of the night. Each dish that we ordered was cooked well and the spiciness levels were just right. I had the green coconut curry with paneer was very happy with my dish. Tip: Go to Restaurant.com and buy a certificate to use here on your next outing. Yay for saving money.

I have to change my review b/c I have been back a few times after my first time it's not consistent. We always order the Eggplant Bharta and sometimes it's hotter than other times. This place is def good and worth trying b/c everyone's tastes are different, but I have found other places in my neighborhood that I prefer to go to over this place.
(3)Alex C.
The best samosas and naan, and fresh, flavorful Indian food. I tried the Aloo Ghobi and it was the best I've tasted. Can't wait to return and try some of their other dishes.
(5)Angella K.
Pretty mediocre. Cute ambiance, though. If you want great Indian food in the area, I suggest trying Crown of India, but you may want to order take away, since it's somewhat of a hole in the wall. Don't miss the Began Bharta. They also will stuff their whole wheat roti with cheese and garlic, if you ask nicely :) Akbar in Pasadena and Santa Monica are also better. Don't miss the Pasadena location's Kas-ke-badamjan, eggplant appetizer in Chef's special yogurt sauce.
(2)Jerusha B.
I just ordered here for delivery. I wanted to love this place, but I didn't. The worst tikka Masala I've had in a long time - Very salty. The delivery man was a sour puss too. I'll pass on this place.
(2)Melissa B.
The food is good, but not outstanding. The service was good. We had a curry dish, a spinach dish, and chicken tikka. The chicken was good, the curry was good, but the spinach dish was different than I've had before. This is a small place, not super fancy. It's ok as a take out place or neighborhood joint, but nothing super special. The meal was good but not memorable.

I have found East India Grill to always be a great value (lunch menu) and always very hospitable. There are very few Indian restaurants around that have outdoor seating where I can bring my dogs...but they do have a patio and a table near entrance where dog owners can dine with their dogs. I particularly like their green coconut curry chicken...samosas...and breads. The lady who usually serves our table (Aisha) is very kind and always welcoming...as is the gentleman whom I assume is the owner or manager. Oh yes...and if you like mango ice cream....try theirs. It is home made and amazing!!!
(5)kazuko O.
tried here after playing golf. Since it was 4pm, there was nobody. I have never tried East Indian curry, so I wanted to try. I have tried north Indian and south Indian so many times before due to my job in Japan. Their menu looked nothing to do with East India. Rather, they made up some strange food like American style such as buffalo Chicken. My husband ordered buffalo chicken since he did not know anything about Indian food. It tasted really bad and we could not really eat it... He always orders things that people do not order and he cannot eat. My Chicken Korma was good (descent), so I was happy. However, I could not find curry which is specialized to Eastern Indian... So, I don't know why I went there after all.

i'm giving east india grill 4 stars with several caveats! not everything on their menu is a winner, but there are definitely some good values and standouts. if you're looking for a great lunch spot with exceptional value, you've found it at east india grill. all their lunch specials are priced between $7-$8 and are solidly good. GOOD, not great. my favorite is from the tandoori menu, the tikka medley. for a modest $7.95 you get a large round metal tray (what is it with the indians and stainless steel?) filled with fluffy basmati rice, a mound of fresh salad, a steaming scoop of vegetable curry (usually chickpea or eggplant), and a mixed tandoori of chicken, lamb, and fish. the fish is so fork tender it melts beneath your fork, separating along the muscle fibers, and glistening with moisture. serious kudos to them for never drying out the fish or chicken. as voracious as my appetite is, i am rarely able to finish my lunch. believe me, it is very generously sized. now for the caveats, here are some menu items to avoid at all costs : the curried mussels from the appetizer menu are disgusting. 6 or 7 mussels are smothered in a blanket of heavy cream sauce, lost in all that cloying richness. i tried one mussel and left the rest on my plate untouched. the chicken wings from hell disappointingly did not transport me to said hell. i wanted a fiery heat that would leave me in tears and got nothing but a pleasant tingle. the parmesan naan was flimsy and had a light dusting of parmesan that was barely detectable by the tongue. the wait time can very even when the place is empty, but service is always very friendly. there is plenty of seating inside and out for those who prefer the patio.
(4)Tiffany P.
i"ll do 2 seperate review just to be fair (food separate)..This is based solely on my experience with THEE RUDEST delivery man I have ever had. Older white haired man, which makes me wonder if he is mad he is delivering food anyways...but I basically just had my food literally thrown at me as he's saying for you in a pissed off tone and he runs off.... I am sooooo confused i couldnt get a word in he didn't even give me a chance to say thank-you not that he deserved it... Needless to say i don't care how good this food is (which I haven't even ate yet, I just went straight to YELP) I am in disbelief....

Our favorite Indian plae in the neighborhood. Its quiet in the restaurant, but not sure why. Food is amazing and fast. And the owner is friendly and attentive.
(5)Food E.
AMBIANCE: Tables have thick pieces of greasy, sticky plastic on top of the regular table cloths. I guess they can't be bothered with actually washing their linens. Everything else is so nondescript that it's hardly worth mentioning. SERVICE: unpleasant, unfriendly, condescending waiters. We had a Restaurant.com certificate, which directed us to present it to the wait staff before ordering. One of the waiters took it from us, sighed repeatedly, shrugged his shoulders, and said, "Well, that's ok, I guess, you can still order. Don't worry about it." We didn't realize we were supposed to feel uncomfortable about using a Restaurant.com certificate, but we sure did feel that way afterwards. The rest of the meal went on in a similar fashion. At some point, my son asked, "Why does that waiter [a different man from the one who took our initial order] keep looking at us disapprovingly, and shaking his head?" It took them a very long time to clear the dirty appetizers dishes. After a while, it just becomes gross. Then, it took them even longer to bring out our main courses. They were by no means busy. FOOD: we eat at Indian restaurants A LOT. In our experience, one of the things you can always count on is for them to ask if you want your food cooked mild, medium or hot. No such luck here. Everything was HOT! The food itself was not bad, just very mediocre and forgettable. With the exception of Lamb Vindaloo, which was completely bland despite being hot. Yes, I know, sounds impossible, until you try it. BEVERAGES: the drinks that were served to us deserve a separate section. Both the lemonade and the ice tea tasted like swill. Seriously, we've never had worse! COST: VERY HIGH for what you get. The portions are anything but generous. And the bill came with an 18% (!) tip already added to it. After the service we got that takes some SERIOUS nerve. BOTTOM LINE: We will NOT be back!
(2)Kalli C.
I am quite a fan of Indian food, not to mention this place is within walking distance of my apartment. We went here for lunch and were both quite satisfied. My paneer curry was deliciously sweet and went awesomely with the naan we ordered. Sam's chicken tikka was really moist and well spiced. I also got the "Wings from Hell" and though they were not "fire hot," they were delicious. The only reason East India Grill is getting four stars instead of five is because the service was a little sluggish. Other than that, everything was outstanding. I will totally eat here again.
(4)Renee L.
I swear my boyfriend was Indian in a past life. The guy lives to eat, and one of his favorite foods is Indian food. Needless to say, after we passed East Indian Grill a couple times on La Brea, we had to try it. And...we freakin' looooooove this place!! The poori is off the heazy, butter chicken (aka chicken tikka masala, fatty styles) is heaven in yo mouth, the saag paneer is nothing less than awesomeness itself, and navratan korma--although vegetarian, is beautiful enough to satisfy this meat-lover. These are our staples. We have yet to try everything else on the menu but we're eager to try. Oh--and it's open on the later side, which is nice for the late-night eat days. We definitely heart this place. You will too. Oh, and also... we eat like animals, and we always leave stuffed to the brim and with enough for a hearty snack the next day or at least a full meal for one of us! :D now THAT'S what i'm talking bout, suckaaaaaaaaaaaa.
(5)Harvey K.
Like many others reviewing this restaurant, the service was plain horrible and the food was tomato soup with chicken in it. I tried to flag down the waitress to ask if we could move to a different table. She saw me and then proceeded to ignore me. She did this twice. Later on in the meal, I asked her for assistance again and she spoke Indian to the waiter standing next to her, while pointing at me, and then walked off. The waiter then answered my question. The question was: Why is our food taking an hour to come out... Major disappointment. To cap it all, they didn't seem to care one iota! Are they not aware of the competition and the fact that people use Yelp these days?
(1)Laura Y.
Absolutely love this place and have been coming here for years. They are great for dine in and take out! Simply the best Tikka Masala around. Service is personable and kind; they usually treat us to dessert. Can't go wrong with their samosas, garlic basil naan, any soup, the curries, or traditional dishes. But seriously, the Tikka Masala is where it's at (I usually get chicken). Enjoy!
(5)Shane M.
YUM YUM YUM. I'm not much of an Indian food fan after so many not so good experiences, but this place makes me want to convert to Indian only! A good friend and myself came here while I was in LA for a the weekend and it is amazing. We shared the Yellow House Curry with chicken and Tikka Masala with Paneer. WOW. I usually stop eating once I'm full, weird huh. But I couldn't stop and we still had some to take back to his house. Tyler you better save the left overs until I come back!!!!! The guys working there are very nice and the price was very reasonable as well. I'm going back when I'm back in LA again. I wonder if they will deliver to Denver?
(5)Danielle L.
I miss living near here. This is one of my favorite indian food places. I LOVE the Eggplant Bharta & Veggie Curry and could eat it everyday. It's like crack to me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Sadly since moving back to noho I haven't quite found a suitable replacement near by. I have found a couple places to get my Indain food fix but they don't take me to that special place of MMMMMMM. I remain hopeful. And still stop by East India Grill when I can.
(4)Wes T.
I agree with the last several 2 star raters exactly... sauces bland, I asked for spicy, I got spicy, the first bite burnt my taste buds, could hardly taste the rest of the meal, I do know that whatever they used to spice it up is not the authentic way, it was like they added a spoon full of sarraco chili to a ready made sauce to make it spicy, I eat Indian food all the time, and am on a quest to find the best in LA, I am still looking, The raita tasted a little off, the salad came with italian dressing wtf? We asked for the tamarind condiment, to find later we were charged 1.95, they took it off when i questioned them about it, The naan was the best thing there, it arrived almsot as soon as we ordered it i asked it to be kept warm till the rest of the lunch was ready, still brought back 3-4 minutes before the rest. They adverstize 4.50 lunch special to get you in there, 4.50 is a salad. The cheapest specaials are 7,95 which i dont mind payi9ng if it tastes good, loads of rice, a veg, a salad and a chicken curry. If it tasted authentic, I would be going back...but I dont think so..
(3)Shirley K.
Overall a 3.5 stars rating for this restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly even thought we were the last ones there and stayed till almost closing time - 5 stars. The food is reasonably priced for the portion. However, I thought the taste was mediocre - 3 stars. Street parking only.
(3)Bjoern R.
Love this place. Great lunch deals. Bread, lamb and chicken are awesome. The staff is super friendly too.
(5)Emberwild T.
Place was decent and the food was good. Kind of misleading on the prix fix menu but other than that I'd probably go back. There's a German bar/cafe next door too so eat and go have a drink. Win, win!
(3)Brenton F.
I've never had authentic east Indian food, so I have no basis for comparison. All I know is what I ate tasted really good. I went with my Indian friends who did all of the ordering. The appetizer was some deep-fried potato ball which was scrumptious. The main entrees were different types of curry served with garlic naan. I enjoyed a strawberry shake during my meal which I highly recommend (it's called something else but apparently is really common). For desert I had the mango something (again not quite sure of the name but it was good haha.) Sorry for being too detail oriented on the food.
(4)dave g.
This place is a gem. Amazing food at reasonable prices, great friendly staff makes it a joy to come back to. If you work in the hollywood/ la brea area, you must make a habit of going here for lunch sometimes. Their lunch specials are very generous in size and price. I always get the chicken tikki masala (sorry if I spell it wrong) and a mango lassi. Their complimentary mint chutney is not watered down like some other places. They have outdoor seating and easy metered parking in front and a secret free parking space or two in the back. Super nice place, super nice people, great food. Go there now!
(4)Joel M.
I've never had a bad meal here and the prices are great. I think the nan bread is a bit over priced for the serving size, but it's always very good, so I still order it every time. However, the meals are always delicious and come in generous proportions for a very fair price. I like the layout of the restaurant. I would feel comfortable wearing casual or formal cloths here and still feel like I fit in. I usually sit on the covered patio. The downside to this place is the service. I've been here many times and always tip well, yet the servers always seem disgruntled. They are attentive enough that I get what ever I need, but it's definitely not service with a smile. But for the prices and quality of the food, I plan to continue visiting often. I'll provide the smiles.
(4)Sarah A.
***This review is for delivery only*** I flip-flopped between giving this place three stars or two...let's call it 2.5 for now, and I will update if I go back. On the plus side, the Chicken Tikka was delicious! Moist and flavorful. (Apologies to those who hate the word "moist". You guys are legion! It's intriguing...) But I'd say this Chicken Tikka was one of the better versions of this dish I've had in LA. On the minus side, both the Eggplant Bhartha and the Raita were 100% liquid. Colorful, mildly flavored liquid. Zero weight or texture to them. Imagine running baby food through a blender and then adding water. Mmmm, yum, right?! Yeah, no. Not right. They looked gross, they tasted gross. So 2.5 stars for East India Grill. Huzzah for the tikka, Nuzzah for the Bhartha!
(2)JD H.
Great service, wonderful food. The lentils were so creamy and flavorful. The chicken melted in my mouth. They even gave us free mango ice cream at the end of the meal.
(4)Emilia T.
The atmosphere is nice, cafe style with heat lamps outside in a patio area. But the food was NOT good: All meat was overcooked, the saag was not good, the chicken tiki masala tasted like cheap spaghetti sauce out of a can. They continued to bug us while we were eating by trying to get us to order more rice. Definitely go to India Grill, not East India Grill. They have way better food at about the same prices.
(2)Cathy L.
Great service and large food portions. The green and yellow curry were both very tasty but I prefer the green if I had to choose one over the other. The naan was just right, very chewy and not too doughy. It was a good size portion for the price. I tried both the traditional and also the garlic flavored naan. I wasn't too thrilled with the garlic since it totally consumed my taste buds. The Tandoori Chicken was sizzling hot on a plate when it came out and was very flavorful. You can taste the many spices in the tender chicken. The only drawback was the rice that we had to order which cost $9 for 2 servings. It was an ample amount but a bit pricey to me. You can park on the streets or in their back parking lot.
(4)Youmin J.
I love this place! It was my boyfriend's first try for indian food and he really liked their food! Food, Beer, atmosphere and staff all the thing was perfect. Especially, the guy who served us was really nice and friendly. We ate nahn, curry and tandori chicken salad. Curry was really creamy and delicious. I will definitely visit here again!

This is what I get for cheating on my beloved Crown of India. I ordered my usual so I can compare: tikka masala, korma, plain naan, and rice. Tikka masala tasted like ketchup, korma was lacking, naan came out burnt in the middle and tasted just.... dry. The rice was probably the worst.... I mean how can rice taste bad? The 1.5 stars is for the pleasant staff and half a star for the food. I will never again stray from my usual spot again!

Some of the best North Indian cooking around. They also offer generous portions and friendly service. I really enjoyed the green coconut tofu curry with cheese naan, but I haven't had a bad dish here. As with most Indian restaurants, it's friendly for vegetarians.
(5)Steve B.
First time visit.... Ordered the chicken tikka masala extra, extra spicy...and he brings me a side bowl of sriacha/red chili to add...not impressed. Would have preferred the chili oil in the masala sauce when first being made...oh well. After visiting India and tasting all favors the beautiful land offers...I felt that this restaurant "tones it down" for the LA palate. Too bad...wanted the experience. Service was good, staff friendly but the food experience...not as authentic as I was hoping for.

One of the best Indian restaurants in LA -- if not the best! The owners are amazing and so helpful, and the food is seriously life-changing. The eggplant bharta is what ibet everytime, and the garlic naan. Their chicken tikki masala is also top-notch. It'd be really hard to find something here that isn't crazy delicious.
(5)Eric H.
The chicken Tikal masala is great. They have a lunch special and you get a side salad and a daily vegetable dish. Make sure to get some naan. The cheese naan is awesome but if you want something sweet then try the pishowri naan. They were a little busy. I guess one of their waiters called out sick. It happens.

East India grill is an amazing place to get great Indian food's the service is excellent and very nice. My waiter was a very nice man who served me politely and we'll. I will definitely go back!

With a colorful outdoor patio and excellent service (above and beyond), East India Grill stands out from most restaurants in L.A. in the arena of food quality as well. Tonight, I showed up with two friends and ordered several dishes. Each dish, including appetizers was brought to the table in perfect timing and the flavors of each dish were eye-openingly delicious as well as wholly unique. For those who are not accustomed to spicy dishes, the staff makes sure that your food will be at an enjoyable level of flavor instead of spice. I highly recommend that you check out this restaurant for any lunch or dinner occasion.

Simply put, the best Indian food in Los Angeles. I was very bummed when I moved to Silverlake and couldn't find a good Indian place that delivered. This used to be my go-to place when I lived in Hollywood, and I kept looking for a good Indian place east side without luck. Then I found out that they now deliver to Los Feliz / Silverlake area, woo hoo! This place has fresh, authentic Indian food that is bursting with flavor. My favorite is the Chicken Karahi and after introducing several people, everyone has agreed that it's incredible. Potato nan is excellent, as are the samosas. I normally get delivery, but every time I've come in, the service is nice and the owner is incredibly nice and goes out of his way to ensure that people are happy. I don't understand why this place doesn't have stronger reviews because I've tried a lot of Indian places and keep coming back here as the best place I've found in the city.

Lov was a greeeat waiter. Great portions. Girlfriend and I had a great meal here for a good price. And they added a free ice cream at the end!! Lov and friends are greatness personified!

Second time coming to this Indian restaurant and they never disappoint. The food and the service are both pleasing. I wish all restaurants had staff as nice as the staff at East India Grill.

This so good food I loved chicken Tikka Masala so good and cheese man and very good service
(5)Brandon H.
Great food and even greater service. We always order food for delivery and the portions are very generous but this time we happened to want to eat in the restaurant. The waiter was exceptionally nice and as always we loved the chicken curry. Thanks again and see you soon

I am confused by any negative reviews of this place. My husband and I have been going here for over 20 years. 20!! For a restaurant to stay open that long in Los Angeles speaks volumes. The restaurant is family owned and the people who work there are from India. So yes, there may be a slight language barrier, but that's what makes it authentic! We have always been treated with absolute kindness. Everyone who works there always remembers us and even remembers our favorite order. The food is excellent, and we have eaten Indian food in LA, New York, and London, so we know what it's supposed to taste like.

Wonderful experience. Got the voucher on Amazon local. Food was really good and the service was impeccable. I really appreciated the effort by wait staff and management in making sure we were always accommodated, nothing lacking. The staff was genuine . This was a very pleasant experience. I will return.

Not the prettiest restaurant. The indoor patio/tent is an eye sore. I think I was seated near the bathroom? But it has a certain charm to it as you pass along hurriedly from it. Of all the Indian restaurants, I wouldn't necessarily recommend East India Grill, unless you're in that little food court area and you don't feel like having other cuisines. The food is moderately priced and decent taste-wise for what you pay. I fear, though, that they may be prepackaged ahead of time...instant curry. Their lamb was tough. The chicken was slightly undercooked, although some pieces were a bit gray, meaning overcooked. So, cooking of it was inconsistent. But why the three stars? Well, the food (my dish at least) wasn't so bad. Service was what you would expect at a family-owned Indian restaurant. The people can be annoying (what do you expect? It's on La Brea). You know, I will never come up with anything really nice to say, except if you're stuck in this area and you suddenly are craving Indian and there are no other Indian restaurants around you and you can't drive or walk to another one somewhere else, etc., then I would recommend it.

Ok I wasn't sure if I was going to write this review right now because I am really hungry and I dont have time to order Indian food. INDIAN GRILL ROCKS THE HOUSE!!!!!!!Seriously all their dishes(I have had 85 percent of the menu over the past 3 years) I am a Jewelry Designer and sometimes I am stuck in my studio with a client or working. How do I impress a client with good food when im drilling crystals and stones? INDIAN GRILL!!!!! Authentic Indian food (ive been eating Indian Food since I was 15 and trying places all over Los Angeles) Born and raised in Hollywood I have found no other that compares. The owner and workers are so friendly and nice. The food is always CONSISTENT!!!!!!!. If I had a restaurant I would want my food to be as good.

Yummy Factor Is Off Da Hook!!! Great authentic indian cooking. Located on the busy strip of La Brea. Everything is tasty here. The Garlic Basil Nan is served fresh and hot off the pan...careful not to burn your fingaz. Friendly staff and the service is not bad either. One of my wifey's favorite Indian food restaurant. Can't go wrong with the Chicken Tikka and any of the curry variations. The Lamb Vindaloo is really tasty. Best part is the ice cream. Still can't figure out what the heck it is: taste like mango, part orange, and maybe a bit of pineapple. Whatever it is, it's yummy and tasty. What a way to finish your meal with. During the weekdays, they have lunch specials, and they don't skimp on the portions. Great deal and can't go wrong. By the way, they also delivery in the Mid-Wilshire area. Yeah! Happy Eating.

My husband, son and I have been going to this restaurant for about 10yrs. We have always had a great relationship with the waiters, waitress and staff. They are cordial and the food always arrives quick and hot and delicious. The place is always clean which is very important to us and it's great that they have an open kitchen. I love the chicken tika, and my husband always has to order two of the calamari. It's great for starters. It's also convenient as we live in the area. I know there are other Indian places that we've tried and we always come back.

Any place where the sauce stays the same but type of meat is interchangeable is just wrong. Just cook the stuff as it is best or properly prepared and don't worry about pleasing the masses of picky people. Okay so I guess there are a few... particular restaurants of varied cuisine that I can think of that can sort of pull it off . I guess because the quality of the dishes prepared properly are authentic and tasty but it's still a shameless attempt to please everyone and the practice should be banned. Sorry I got side tracked. Back to East India Grill. I can't recall exactly what meat I ordered with what sauce but I do remember it being a thoughtful and reasonable match. Well it wasn't and it had nothing to do with my pairing skills. The meat was iridescent and tough as a cheap, well done steak. It couldn't possibly go well with anything but the bottom of my trash can. It was inedible and looked toxic. I took a few bites and then threw it out...it was that bad. I wish I had something nice to say, to offset the negative a little. Maybe something nice about about the friendly service or ambiance? Sorry but I had it delivered.

Short Version: Great Indian food, small restaurant. Long Version: The food is a delicious treat that tap dances on your tongue. The staff dances equally well, and remembers you on your second visit. The food is consistently well-prepared and the prices are fair. Outdoor and indoor seating and it's close to several comedy venues. Be nice to yourself and go.

I went to this restaurant years ago and it was chic and the food was terrific. Forgot about it until I saw a Bloomspot certificate offer and decided that I would revisit. Let's bypass the sticky plastic tablecloth and the basically rundown appearance of the place in general. It's been on La Brea forever so I was still optimistic. The dipping sauces and naan were great but then our food arrived. Yikes! The eggplant bharta was like baby food... pureed beyond recognition and sweet! I've eaten tons of Indian food in my life and have never been confronted with a mess like this. The saag aloo was the same, though not sweet, with frozen packaged vegetables dumped in. The mango chutney was right out of the jar. As another reviewer mentioned, there was weirdness with the bill and, as I said earlier, I had a Bloomspot certificate. Stay away from this place. If you enjoy vegetarian Indian food I'd recommend Paru up in Hollywood. Cute, clean, and great food.

samosas-solid gold crunchy goodness. ($4) naan- fresh, warm, toasty yum! ($2) green curry-SPICY! I got the veggie, and it comes with rice, lentils and yogurt sauce ($12) All on a great plating motif. The variety of items on the table was amazing. All very affordable and delicious. Also a bomb reheat!
(4)Chelsea M.
This is really good Indian food. They have great Tandoori Chicken. The only thing wrong with this place is when you want them to deliver, they end up sending you way too much rice! I mean not like a pile of rice. I mean a mountain of rice that I didn't even ask for. If you order the Tandoori Chicken dinner it comes with rice. But they end up charging you at least 10 extra dollars for this other container of a week's worth of rice. What a waste! They must have a lot of rice they have to get rid of to have to secretly charge people for a mountain of rice.
(3)Betty B.
"yummy to the infinity and beyond....." The naan is incredible...so fresh and made to the order...so good that it'll burn your fingers but you just don't care....give me my naan...ahhhh! We had the Parmasian naan and shrimp naan. Both are just the best naan I've had. The curry and Mahi Mahi tandoori (I hope I got my lingo right) was amazing as well. I was told that it's own by Indian brothers and let me tell you, when you see real Indian people with turbans and speaking Indian to each other, you know you come to the right place. The food is the most authentic Indian food I've had...ok...yelpers...you gotta go and try it. Oh I forgot, their Mango drink is fxxxing awesome. It's kinda smoothie/creamy like but it tasted just like Mango in a liquid form. I'm not a mango person but I can't stop thinking about it now....
(5)P. C.
I've been there twice now. My favorite thing there is the Nan. You have to try the Garlic or Onion Nan. Their nans are thin, little bit crispy, and buttery. Their Tandoori items (we've tried chicken and lamb tikka) are definitely better than their curries (I've tried Korma and Green coconut curries). The second time we went, we tried their prix fix dinner. It's a good deal, with a lot of food. But too much food for two, we have a lot of left over to bring home with. I also really like the eggplant dish that come with the Prix fix dinner. I'll definitely go back again, but next time probaly will just order their Nan with Tandoori chicken. =) OH! If you live close by, their to-go menu price is cheaper than the dine-in menu.
(4)Richard B.
I love this place!! It was the first dining experience I had when I moved to a LA and it was hard to beat. Family owned and you can tell by the service. They remember everyone and make you feel like you are at home. The Naan is yelptastic and you have bunches of curry options. I usually go for medium because I am a total Puss. But even so it is Grrrreat. Have not found anything that i don't like and they have some cool arse Indian beers. Woo Hoo
(5)Jeannine M.
I haven't been here for probably 15 years and it's still the same as I remember it but I thought I'd give it another try. The tandoori fish was really great, tasty and moist (not afraid of that word, Sarah A.!) but the saag paneer was really pureed. More like baby food and could have been more flavorful. Chutneys we boring as hell. I agree the curries and raita are too watery. I'll save myself for India's Grill.
(3)Harrison R.
Service here is friendly, warm, professional, and caring. The lamb curry and the sweet nan are my favorites here, best in L.A. and I've tried a lot of Indian restaurants. If you love lamb curry, forget about the rest, and come here. There rice pudding is also quite delicious. They have takeout service if you like which is efficent and friendly. The portions are large and worth the price. I just love this place, what can I say?
(5)S S.
The chicken tikka masala was SO creamy and delicious that I would've ordered more of the sauce, if I could, just to use it as a dipping sauce for the equally delicious naan (garlic, and onion/cilantro, to be exact). I'm still thinking about it now. Unfortunately, I'm also still thinking about how at the end of the night, our server picked up our leftovers to box them up for us by grabbing the chicken tikka masala plate and put it RIGHT ON TOP of our plate of naan. Am I the only one who thinks it's unsanitary to let the bottom of a plate that's been sitting on the table touch my food? They might as well have just given us our naan by setting it directly on our table. And there were only two of us at my table (and about 6 people in the whole restaurant), so it's not as if there were so many plates (or so many other customers needing attention) that the server needed to take a one-time short cut. Sadly, this is what I will always remember most about my visit here.
(3)David A.
This is our go to place for Indian food. For us it is 60% take out and 40% eat in. Always good and friendly service and consistently excellent food. Spice level always correct.
(5)Cecily J.
I've been eating here for almost 10 years now & I still haven't found a better bargain Indian restaurant. I used to eat at the restaurant & even though I'd go 5-6 times each year they always greeted me like I was a regular and often gave me free dessert. For the last few years we've almost exclusively ordered delivery, which is always quick and hot. (They always say 45 minutes, but it's usually less than 30.) Due to my tomato allergy our standard order is garlic naan, chicken korma & sag paneer. They're all delicious! In the tomato days I used to order eggplant bharta. Yummm.... We also like their samosas.
(4)Nancy Y.
Small restaurant on La Brea with outdoor patio seating under torch lamps. I ordered the grilled lamb dinner plate with rice and vegetables. The portions was good but lamb didn't taste marinated though it had orange color spices on it. I like my meat medium rare, so maybe I didn't order the right dish. They have a made to order really nice, chewy but soft flat bread here. The flat bread has thin, shaved almond slices, and coconut shreds so it's really fresh, hot and mildly sweet. We got another order of that after finishing the first one. The service is okay, not too friendly or personalized as it could be that the cultural or language differences might be a minor issue.

My Fav place in LA!!! I love this place and the people who run it they are the best!!! The chicken tikka masala, naan, curried mussels, lentils, Mango Lassi actually everything is amazing!!!! The ingredients are always top quality with really good portion size. They will make it as mild or as spicy as you want, I love it SPICY and it's always perfect. They are always so nice and friendly and makes you feel sooooo welcome. Parking is tricky but it's LA and it's more than worth it + I'm lucky I can get delivery because I live close.
(5)Jen G.
It's a shame - we used to come here every now and again a few years back for some good quality Indian food. We hadn't been there in at least a year and had a Groupon to use, so we decided to go. The staff were friendly as always, and service was pretty good, but we disappointed with the food. The mixed tandoori was good but the saag aloo and the eggplant bharta were both a bit bland, and the okra masala was a little too oily. And to top it off, my husband later had an upset stomach. Maybe the food is not as clean as it used to be? We won't be returning any time soon.
(2)TJ W.
A surprise find! Great Indian food, and not that typical buffet deal, but real Indian dishes. Took a client there for a casual lunch and we were all pleasantly surprised with the lunch menu.
(4)David H.
i have only been to East India Grill a few times but i can honestly say it's one of my favorite indian restaurants. The portions i got were the perfect amount for what i paid and their paneer is probably the best paneer i have ever tasted. I am a big fan and crave it often. I really wish i lived closer so i could frequent East India Girll more often.

Walked here for dinner last week after walking by numerous times saying to myself "We'll try it next time" Well I'm glad we went! The food here was EXCELLENT! I had the chicken masala. The curry was nicely spiced and creamy, not too tomato-y. The chicken in the curry must have been lightly marinated, there was a hint of lime flavor. My hubby had the lamb korma, I'm not a huge fan of lamb, but this dish was pretty good (for someone that doesn't like lamb that is) So tender, practically melted in your mouth. The potato naan was soo good! Most places give you a couple slices of Naan, this was an entire platter of Naan, piping hot. Crisped on the outside and soft in the middle. The size of their servings are very generous, there were 3 of us and we couldn't finish 2 entrees and 1 appetizer (the naan). Service was also excellent. Very attentive and very polite, they gave us suggestions as well and dessert on the house. Had a great time here and can't wait to come back!
(5)D. T.
really good indian food..... they give you SO much food....gottta love that. we had the vegetable korma...the vegetable biryani, riata (sp?), and tons of garlic nann. the service was good and the decor is nice.... oh and the pekora is good as well... *please forgive me if i've misspelled the names of the dishes...
(4)Emily K.
This is hands down my favorite restaurant. The staff are friendly and the food is incredible. Looovvee indian food and East India Grill never disappoints. I definitely recommend this place.
(5)Eunice C.
Great lunch prices and portions. Great naan and mango chutney. Service was a little bit slow...but over all still good. They're really nice people too.
(4)Linda N.
It'll do for an indian food fix but it's not worth the price. The service is good but food isn't spectacular.
(3)Dan P.
really really good food. i forget was the fish is called but i think it's the only one on the menu -- crispy on the outside, flaky and tender inside, and a tantalizing combo of sweets and spice. delicious. great samosas, good tandoori. i'm a carnivore at heart, but their aloo gobhi (potato & cauliflower curry) is probably my favorite item. the other favorite i have here is a beer called Yeti; it's not on the menu. even if you don't like beer, you should try it. it's a strong, flavorful ale that reminds me of a Samuel Smith stout. i would give this place five stars but the ambience is severely lacking. it's very drafty when it's cold, the seating is uncomfortable, and the service can be very bad when it's busy (i had to ask the waiter for a check three times recently, and i wound up going up to the counter). ultimately, however, well worth the experience.
(4)Zach D.
yah, its not fancy, so if that's your thing, look elsewhere. the food is delicious and cheap, and the staff is super attentive and friendly (even on a saturday night). they remembered us from the last time we had eaten there (months ago). if you go, do yourself a favor and get the mango ribs!!!
(5)Bita M.
This place is amazing. The food was incredible. The ambiance was very nice and the service was incredible. Best of all, it is affordable. Definitely recommend East India Grill.
(5)Rachel A.
After complaining that there wasn't much good Indian food around our area, I was delighted to stumble upon East India Grill on La Brea. This place is all Bollywood, all the time. It's tucked away in the cute little eatery section of La Brea with Sante La Brea and a couple of others. We came for dinner on a week night and the place was pretty empty. The servers were attentive, albeit pretty unfriendly. We got our usual: samosas, tandoori chicken, and aloo mataar and it was all really great. Everything tasted the way we prefer our Indian food to be: grilled and a little charred on the outside, but with a tender center, though I do have to admit that I thought the chicken was really dry. Still, definitely worth trying!
(3)David L.
Checked out this joint because I love Indian food and I had a gift certificate. Located right on La Brea with easy street parking, my girlfriend and I indulged in an early Indian dinner. We decided to go for the Prix Fixe meal because of the stipulations of the coupon. The appetizers came out first, about 15 minutes before our main meal. We ordered samosas (pretty decent) and sheek kebabs (not that tasty) as well as a pair of Diet Cokes. Pardon my tangent: they serve fountain drinks here, not soft drinks in bottles or cans so there are free refills ;-). Moving on, the service was friendly but not overly attentive. Our food came out a little late so the naan was a little cool and not ideal for dipping. Our lamb korma and fish coconut curry were delicious and spicy-to-order, and the portions of the meals were enormous. We barely could eat half of what was on the table and had to take most of it home for leftovers. Overall, the food was good, not excellent. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant but not stunning. And the service was good but not exemplary. However, they were nice about not making me pay cash (one of the stipulations of the coupon) and as a result I'm gave them 4 stars for an overall good experience.

I don't like being watched while I eat. But let's talk about what really matters, yelpers. The grub. Going on another yelper's suggestion, we ordered the sweet naan, which was absolutely... delicious. (Although sweet naan pairs much better with coffee in the morning, than Old Monk beer at night.) A word of caution: careful not to over-order. We did. You can easily split an entree and one order of Old Monk beer (forget Taj Mahal and Kingfisher), and call it a night. But if you do find yourself committing the little sin of over-ordering, you'll have very tasty leftovers (which they packaged very neatly). The samosas here are beyond perfect; the green coconut curry with tofu, or red curry w/ lamb, I highly recommend as well.
(4)andrew m.
i got the feeling that this place used to be a pizzeria or some form of italian joint in a previous life. that said, east india grill is a pretty good indian restaurant on la brea. i enjoyed the entrees but our naan came before the rest of the food and was therefore cold when the main courses arrived. the samosas were rather bland too. i recommend getting the side of rice + raita + daal with your entrees.
(3)jen m.
very tasty! the sag paneer is definitely up to par at this place. they have a great selection of naan as well. the one i had was so tasty. sorta sweet. i don't recall the name because it wasn't on the menu. but if you just ask for the "sweet" naan they will know what you mean. the prices are reasonable. the ambiance is cute. it's right next to sante la brea (also a great place to eat) and they have indoor and outdoor seating.
